you know that your MINI does enjoy hand washing though right, they love the human contact . I wouldnt advise goto car washes alot, once or twice in the winter isnt going to rip your stripes off though

Be more afraid of your antenna being ripped off.

Rule 1. MINIs like to party
Rule 2. Don't carwash your MINI
Rule 3. Whenever you wash your MINI, you are partying with it
Rule 4. Party with your MINI often

If you adhere to these four simple rules, your MINI will love you long time.

mini freak, don't let the folks in the Detailing 101 forum know that you take your MINI to a car wash! You'll never hear the end of it!

Auto carwashes occasionally won't hurt your stripes they do however tend to scratch, for this reason if you must, I'd only do a touch free. Also, the soaps used wil dramatically wear down the wax on your car. Also a few have lost items like anttenas, 3rd brake lights and scuffed rims. In the winter I ether wait it out ir go to a DIY spot and drop ina few quarters and do a through rinsing, with the current warmer temps I'm actually getting in at least 2 Dec. washes in Chicago this year.

(PS I tend to hang out / lurk in Detailing 101 )

Once in a while its ok, I've done it several times, but if I ever have the option not to now (even if it means a few days/weeks/months of dirty MINI) I avoid it.

The risk of damage by an auto carwash is far to great for me to risk my MINI in one.

And MINI's are generally too small for auto car washes to reach all of the body panels. In a pinch, I have done it twice and each time I have found that large areas of the car, especially the dirty boot do not get washed. You end up with a partially washed MINI that looks worse than a dirty one.

I attemted to go to the good automatic car wash for the first time with my MINI, but they said the car was too low WTF. I usually do the DYO carwash, but a few times throughout the year I feel the car nees a chassis bath to get the salt and corrosives out.

Someone take this person's key away until they write on the chalk board 100,000 times: "I will never put my Mini through an automatic car wash."
