R50/53 Some Bozo(s) tried to steal my MC last night!

The right window has about 10-12 scuff marks, the upper door trip is scuffed,
and there is a decent scratch on the door opposite the door lock ****. I have to drive by the PD tonight so they can fill out a report. I think they were trying to use a crobar. Good thing they didn't try to break the window.

Very sorry to hear that, especially since you live practically around the corner from me! Let us know how the police report and the insurance stuff works out. I guess the good thing is that they didn't get frustrated and break a window, and really monkey around with some of your stuff.
Speaking of... Where's that link to the trunk monkey?

>>I am really sorry to hear about that! People are such JERKS!!!!!! But I'm sure they will get what's coming to them. No bad deed goes unpunished. Usually.
>>
>>And I must have been gone awhile...because I don't know what the trunk monkey is. I AM OUT OF THE LOOP.
OMG, you MUST see Trunk Monkey!
There is a link in here someplace.

sorry to hear that happend to your car
i hate thieves, i hate people who vandalize other peoples stuff
why cant people just get a job, and get their own nice stuff, and stop being so jealous
in the last year alone:
1)i had my integras sunroof stolen and the roof damaged
2)had the turbo and oil pressure gauge stolen from my 12second crx, and they tried to steal the car as well, but i almost caught them
3)had my brand new suzuki motorcyle stolen with 41 miles on it
it was a bad year

Thanks for the sympathies! GRRR! I say. Chrisln, the car was not at home, but I was at my gf's place. in Revere. It will not be making a return trip there.
I'll talk to the insurance co after I file a Police report. The glass is fully covered, but I'm sure the door will come under the deductible. (not that huge of a scratch) just plain desperate people, I say. There were cars parked near it worth 35K! I guess you take the good with the bad!
Ironcally eough, I just called about geting an off-the-street spot hours before the incident. The Car will be out of harms way (hopefully)
So now that this has happened, can anyone recommend a good Alarm system?

Sorry about the damage done to your MINI. I may be a little fanatic about such things but I did everything I could think of to prevent anyone from tampering or stealing my MCS. You asked about an alarm system. I had a Viper installed which worked very well. It cost about $ 350 installed. The steering wheel club, although a good visual deterrent, may be practically useless as a preventative for a determined car thief.
I use a club type thing that attaches to your clutch or brake pedal and prevents it from being engaged. It's very heavy steel and guaranteed unbreakable. I'm not dumb enough to believe everything I read but it seemed like a pretty good bet.
I also got the LOJACk recovery system. It's not a deterrent or a preventative but a stolen car can be recovered in a matter of hours. And, just for good measure, I put wheel locks on.
I'm seriously considering one of those trunk monkies!
If they really want your car, they'll get it. The least we can do is not make it so easy for them.
Best of luck

The main bummer about incidents like this is the sense of violation you get when someone messes with your stuff. We used to see this a lot when we lived in the city (Baltimore).
I'm thinking that even if a would-be theif manages to get inside a MINI, they can't steal it. According to what I was told, the ignition lock is a lot more sophisticated than simply a switch with a key. Apparently that special laser-cut key (that costs $150 to duplicate!) tells the computer that it's okay to start the engine. The bitter irony is, of course, that car theives are generally pretty stupid and ill-informed (except for the "pros" and would not know about this theft deterent. They'd most likely seriously screw up the system in a vain attempt to hot wire it.
Some advice born of hard experience: NEVER leave ANYTHING that looks like it could be of value in plain sight when you park your car in a known crime area (i.e., just about anywhere in most cities). I know somebody who actually had their dirty laundry stolen out of their 10-year-old Corolla.
