R50/53 Repair a wheel?

Repair a wheel?
I dumped my month old car into a storm sewer grate and it slid into a curb. Now the edge of the wheel is a little chewed up. I doubt that thing can be done about it. It is the wheel that comes with the MCSc sport package. Any ideas anyone. Other than a new one of course. Anyone know how much a new one costs?

Yes, as mtbscott says, there are wheel repair services available. Easiest place to start other than the Yellow Pages is to call your dealer - they probably already have someone that they use for their in-house needs and could recommend them to you. Sorry to hear of your misfortune. Best of luck!

I saw an excellent thread on repairing a chewed up wheel SOMEWHERE on this forum. Had pics and step by step instructions. Do a search.

My girlfriend ran over what she thinks was a piece of wood on the highway (@65 mph) and bent one of our brand new wheels pretty good. I thought we might need to replace it, but a local machine shop was able to repair it within a day. At the shop they had examples of wheels before/after repair, they had several with serious curb rash before, and looking brand new after.
I'd have to check my receipt to be certain, but I think I paid about $120 (canadian) to get it repaired. No problems with the repaired wheel at all.

Talk about ******* a wheel, i took a turn a tad too sharp and nailed
my rear wheel (SSR GT3) over the weekend. it took a nice pea sized
chunk of alloy away from the lip along with 3 more smaller chunks
and 2 scuff marks. all I could do was shake my head and laugh it
off. It was a tap, but not a Bang.
The lip wasn't bent and the damage was not quite enough to
take it to a wheel repair shop before my S03's were worn out
(at about a nice 55% left right now). I would have to remove the
tire before taking it in.
So I basically did what the DIY link above says without the
paint... instead, inorder to achieve the similar polished aluminum finish,
I took some thin alumium tape and polished it to a nice shine using
Wenol. Then I cut a few pieces of the alumium to about a 20x8mm
size and applied it over the putty. The adhesive is so strong once
you put it on and keep it on over night it won't peel off or anything.
Unless you look very closely looking for the repair, I don't think one
would be able to find it.
When the tires are ready to be replaced i will decide again if I want
to get it repaired professionally or just use it as is.

I just used this process to repair a curb grind that went about 1/3 around the edge of a white S-lite. I came out very nice with only one problem. The white wheel paint from Wirth does not quite match the S-lite white. The Wirth paint is a little 'white'er'.
