More than I Dreamed

Got our CR/CR MCS last evening. Picked it up from Julie Saxa in Mentor, Ohio. It was snowing! But Julie had it nice and warm in the showroom for a look over. I checked-it-out and all was in order and then we went for a quick drive. Did the paperwork and I was out of there!

Today I put about 400 miles on it and it performs beyond my expectations. It is incredible. It is much more responsive and feels faster than the '04 I test drove months ago. Really happy. It handles like a dream, is comfy on the highway and no rattles! I am pretty much keeping to the break-in constraints, but I did push it a few times and I haven't encountered any wheel spin, thus I believe my LSD is doing its job. This car likes to pull strong. It also looks great! I went for the Bullets and it was a great choice.

I have delivery pix and will get them posted in a couple of days. I need a computer with photoshop and as I am travelling, I am not finding hotel business offices that stock all the software I have at home.

Again...to anyone on the fence about getting a MCS. Just do it. You most certainly won't regret it!

Awesome! Now you can 'unsubscribe' to the Jan '05 Build thread like I did

Yeah, i'll admit to taking it over 4k rpm now and again. It is just too much fun "power merging" during my commute!

Oh, and I did the cul-de-sac LSD test...nothing but cornering G's

Have fun!

Just loving everything still....one thing is happening that I am researching....windshield crackling!....anyone else experience this and know the cause and if there is a fix? Maybe it's just settling-in. Not completely sure it is from the windshield, but it is a definite crackling sound that seems to be based close to the interior and it is loud!

Any help would be appreciated!

That sounds just like the "ol dash rattle". Just call up your service manager and schedule an apointment for a once over.

Congrats on your new baby, Andro! Watch the windshield carefully! It is a known MINI weakness!

So, did you fly back to Ohio and are roadtripping home now? Have a great time and vary your speeds!

Here is a thread you might want to read. Many of us have the dash crackling. Mine isn't loud enough to bug me too much right now but the dealer will hear about it eventually! Oh and congrats on the new Mini!

05 MCS Dash Rattle That's Really Loud ( 1 2 3 4 )

Well tried it myself and it doesn't work but you can find it in Mini Talk.

Many thanks for the replies and good wishes! I am enjoying the heck out of it! I drove 1100 miles in two days and varied my speeds with great frequency. I also did accelerations of various intensities to teach our MCS that it's not going to be being lazy on the porch.

The crackling is not a rattle. I don't believe it is the dash rattle that we have read about here at NAM or at Mini2. This is a sound that is quite different than a rattle. I did find one thread at Mini2 started by Flav that described the sound that I am experiencing. It also gave a reference number for a case at MiniUsa. I spoke with them today and they couldn't give me any info other to say they are collecting names of people with their corresponding VINs to possibly have a bulletin about the problem. Of course, there has to be a lot of complaints to initiate one. Our MCS is still fresh and I will give it a chance to settle-in and see if the crackling stops or at least diminishes.

Pix are being collected and I will try to upload with the computer I am on currently in New Orleans...I did bring my camera card reader with me and I hope the requisite software is available!

Thanks again!

Yes! We are on a 3000+ mile road trip back. Have to stay in New Orleans and eat lots of food for a couple more days and then we'll head across Texas, New Mexico and Arizona back to So. CA. Going to spend some time in San Antonio, El Paso and trying to decide which natural wonders we'll experience in New Mexico and Arizona on the way back. Going to hit the Grand Canyon and probably drive through Monument Valley and maybe Canyon du Che (can't remember the spelling of this at the moment). First oil change, as I am an old timer about it, will occur at Momentum Mini in Houston on Monday. By then we'll be through the break-in and we'll really see what the MCS can do!

I had some of that same crackling for the first few days. It's gone now though, so I think it was just things settling in on the car. Never developed into anything. Do have an unfortunate slight rattle/buzz just in the area below the rear passenger window by where the seat belt comes out, but not to bad and will mention it next time Piquick goes in for servicing.
