R50/53 Official 2005 February Build Thread
Big Day
Well, after learning from Mini USA last June that a MCSA was coming...and waiting until November to order...and waiting until February for my build...and waiting until March for delivery...tomorrow's the big day!
The only nervousness comes from the message my MA left that they were just finishing up the checkered flag and stripes...um...I didn't order any graphics...
When I finally got through to him, he said he must've been thinking of a different car.
Day of truth arrives shortly...I can't wait!

Since they port's open, there's no reason for the ship not to have docked and unloaded, and I doubt that would be a reason for delay at this point. It's the VDC that is the area of concern. But again, cars seem to be moving through there quickly so we should be fine...

I'm in Awahtukee, just south of Phoenix. Weather is good now and hopefully I will have my MINI before it warms up!
Glad my MINI is coming through SC, because actually I bought mine in Texas, so that will be a good 900 miles for break-in. Where you from?

Now that Resolve unloaded all the cars (hopefully) how do I track my car's progress through VDC? I've checked Mini Owners Lounge and it still says my car is enroute. The WW site still hasn't updated whether the car was unloaded.
It's getting closer and I'm getting impatient.

VDC is when your MINI enters the black hole - no more tracking till it gets to your dealer.
But your dealer (and ASK MINI) should be able to give you a delivery target date; and your dealer will see when the car is "released to carrier" and on its way.

I have also entered the "black hole". I sure hope it gets out soon. I am not having anything done at the dealer so it should go quick there. Due to work and family obligations I can only get to the dealer on weekends. I really hope the car is ready this week so I can pick it up on Saturday. Otherwise, it will be a whole week more. Yikes! These last few days are just the worst especially with the awesome weather we have been having.

Finally got my MINI this past Saturday!!! All I can say is it was worth the 4 month wait and it was well worth it to wait for the 05 and jam pack it with options!
My Hyper Blue Metallic Cooper S consists of the following:
2005 Cooper S - 6-Speed
Black Roof and Black Bonnet Stripes
Premium Package
Sport Package
Cold Weather Package
Black Leatherette
DVD Navigation
H/K Sound
17” R90 Wheels (At dealer this week)
Driving Lights (At dealer this week)
Rear Fog
IPod adapter
LSD
PDC
I have owned many vehicles that I have modded and put over $20,000-$30,000 into. I have NEVER driven off the dealer lot and been so content with a vehicle as I have been with my Cooper S. The power is amazing in stock form, and the whine of the supercharger is music to your ears. The exhaust, although many have complained, is absolutely a perfect tone and resonates in the cabin perfectly.
The suspension with the sport package and the 17”’s is flawless for a stock car, and really isn’t as bad as I expected it to be with the run flats. My R90’s will be on soon, as well as 225/40/17 High Performance non-runflat tires, so I am sure this will even exceed my expectations much more. The tight hard feel of the ride is amazingly similar to my coilovered VW projects.
The LSD is WONDERFUL. I have owned 2 other vehicles in which I had to upgrade to a Quiafe differential. The LSD MINI provides you with is smooth, and eliminates almost all wheel spin, but most importantly the oversteer/understeer factor is nearly eliminated. No fighting hard starts off the line, or sharp turns at higher speeds.
The navigation is also a great addition. I like the fact that so many people have posted their concerns regarding changes, that this version basically eliminates all complaints or wanted upgrades people have voiced. You can choose a British accent for the navigation voice right from the get go, and do not have to download a hack.
The interior was better than I remember on my multiple test drives of 03’s and 04’s. I am most impressed with aluminum trim on dash and doors providing the unfinished “industrial” metal look.
The Harmon Kardon sound system is amazingly clear, loud and full of bass, especially for a stock system. I cannot wait for my iPod adapter!
I have put about 400 miles on it since Saturday and I am waiting patiently to get out of work and turning the key to hear my supercharger whine!
I do want to send mad props out to Bob Smith MINI in Calabasas, CA. Ann Desmond, my motoring advisor, and Ian the Sales Manager, and Megan in Finance, made this purchase the BEST out of the 14 vehicles I have purchased so far in my lifetime! Even though I had to drive 3 1/2 hours to their dealership, I knew from the beginning I made the right decision to go with Bob Smith MINI in Calabasas, and we will be repeat customers later this year when my wife picks up her S!

The Owner's Lounge now says, "estimated delivery date: 3/17/05". I spoke to my MA who called to verify a few items this morning and she said if it did come in on Thursday or Friday we would be able to pick it up on Saturday.
Oh man, this is going to be a long week!
Oh man, this is going to be a long week!
Just got a call from my MA....... My new '05 MCS is at the dealer!!! However, due to schedule issues, I won't be able to pick it up until Sunday, but I am happy that it is already here!
The owner's lounge also updated the status to "At your MINI dealer".
Can't wait!!!!!!!!

It's finally here!
Well, it's almost here... My MCS is at Hendrick MINI, being prepped for delivery!
I stopped by to check it out and was blown away at how cool it is. It will take about a week to get the Aero Kit painted and installed, because the body shop is really busy. It's going to be a long, long week!
But I'll use the time to get other details lined up:

But I'll use the time to get other details lined up:
- New shoes from Alex @ Tire Rack - ordered today
- Arrange an appointment to get his paint protection film installed
- Clean up the garage to make a proper resting place for him
- Get online and order an assortment of small goodies to welcome him

You can wait another week. Be strong!

Thanks Wrks!
Thanks for the tracking info! I was able to see that the Andes Highway docked today! Yippee! Zippy is now probably on dry land and at the VDC or at least soon to be. So glad he landed on 3-14 instead of 3-15(The Ides of March
bad karma). Now just the long wait until I can pick it up on April fools day(more bad karma probably).
