R50/53 Speaking of possible missing parts
Speaking of possible missing parts
I've got a low miles (20,613 miles) 05 JCW. It's pretty clear that the car has never been in any sort of crash. Even the underside of the car is still clean.
BUT...while talking with my brother (works for BMW), he mentioned something about a "belly pan" under the engine, or at least from near the bumper to some distance back.
My car does not have any sort of pan, covering etc., under the front of the car, Am I missing parts that are supposed to be there ?
Other tan catching oil, and a small amount of possible streamlining, what function do they perform ?

This should answer your question > https://mini.7zap.com/en/mini/r53/co...6-ece/51/4366/
A good belly pan adds stability, adds in cooling (pulling air through the radiator) and makes the car a little bit more economical. But the Mini only has a small "belly pan" with an air dam in front of it.
The air channel was added later as an extra protection measure against dirt and debris for the power steering cooling fan. I have an 06 car, but I dont have the air channel. I added a protection, basically recreating this with common hardware store items > https://www.salheiras.com/index.php?...ucts_id=366856

I fully understand what a well designed belly pan does, as sorta noted in my question, this is part of why I'm asking, but thanks.
The page with the part numbers, they are all for automatic trans. cars, or so the section titles say. Are the manual trans. cars using the same panels ? I did mention that my car is a JCW (manual trans.). Don't want to buy auto trans. parts and have them not fit.
I guess I need to find a parts book.

The cooling duct for the power steering fan was added for the auto R53. Not sure if CVT R50’s had the duct, but manual 1st gen cars did not.
For Le Manuel:

More like a splash shield sort of thing,
is that what you're talking about?

Old Boy Speedwell has zero'ed in on the part your brother was alluding to. In all probability, it was left off at an oil change some time in the past. Yes, you can do without it but it does offer some degree of protection, certainly not what I'd call a rally belly pan, though.
