still more hurricanes

attached is a shot from a friend of mine. They parked it in the garage for safety during Frances. Unfortunately, the oak tree did not get the message. No one was hurt thankfully.

I am trying to get parts off the car similar to the organ donor program so that their car will live on and provide a better life for others.

AND now we have Ivan to deal with...I feel like I'm in "Groundhog Day"

That really sucks.

I too have been keeping the MINI in the garage and revelling in the fact that it's protected from flying debris. I hope Ivan doesn't come up here and ruin my sense of security.

Sorry about the MINI - but SO glad nobody was hurt. We're keeping our fingers crossed that IVAN poops out somewhere...

Ouch!

It seems to me that the safest places to park your car during a hurricane are concrete parking garages, but then again there is no guarantee against damages.

Ivan is in our front yard and getting closer.... 160MPH sustained winds (category 5 storm, CATASTROPHIC) and is closing on the island of Jamaica.

Monroe County authorities issued and evacuation order to all residents and tourists in Key West and the lower keys effective as of 9AM EST this morning.

Not looking good at all. Florida can't take a third hurricane in less than 1 month!!!

That’s a real bummer. Not having a garage I have to park on the drive and take my chances and with Ivan moving east I may have dodged another storm this year.

Why are you trying to strip it of parts, was the MINI totaled? I could sure use the passenger side mirror that looks in good shape.

Ouch!!!

I hope everyone is safe now. We shall have to deal with Ivan if heads this way. After seeing that picture, I won't be leaving my MINI in the garage. I'm going to find the safest possible place to leave. From the looks of it, if Ivan does head towards us, their saying that it would strike as a category 4. Hurricane Andrew was a Category 4, so it does worry me alot. Good luck to everyone and keep safe.

If your house was constructed after Andrew you are a lot better off than if built before

An Update: I just spoke to the owner and they are not going to total the car. As you saw the roof trusses in the pic, the entire roof was smashed but miraculously only scratches and a leaky sunroof (thus far). I would be leery of a leaky sunroof as it may = bent structure $$$ and guaranteed leaks. I will admit, I was morbidly coveting the S pedals ...it's sick, I know.

I don't know what is worse: the storm or listening to all the TV stations talk about the weather "apocalypse" non-stop for all the days leading up to it, all the recent "remember what happened" footage and then the endless Doppler weather modeling.
