RPM above 1100 when turn on A/C. Check engine light on code P0130.

I finally had put the car together after 45 days working on and off. Mostly couple hours a day and some Sunday. I have not work on Mini before. Well I have read lot of information from this site and gathering lot of knowledge from everyone. Thank you all for your contribution.
Bought this car with lot of issues. Planned to work on it when my job assignment is over in mid of April but COVID-19 changed my plan, so I still have to work.
Brought this car back to life. I listen to all advice from many members. Almost throw in the towel... But stubbornness kept me going.
Felt good when drive this car on the street. However, I ran into couple issue:
1. Code P0130: O2 sensor Bank 1.
2. Code P1106: MAP sensor error.
3. Those code appears when I turn on A/C and RPM start fluctuated. At stop light in Neutral it went to 1100 or 1200... Sometime it dropped back to 760+... But not steady...
I reset the code and drive without A/C, I drove to work and comeback. About 45 miles, when get home code P0130 appears again.
I need some advice on how to troubleshoot this problem.
Thanks,
AL

Yup. , hood scoop no biuno. 🤔
He explains in a related thread the car came to him that way: a 2002 R50 into which the previous owner had swapped a 2003 S engine. Apparently not all the kinks had been worked out before he got handed the keys, starting with how to port fresh air to the intercooler...

Yes. This is the base model with S engine in it. Still have some work need to be done but so far it better than the time I got the car. The hood scoop is one of the item I am thinking. Will that effect to the condition of the car at normal driving and will it cause the car to fail?

Had to look a few times before I read the thread that stated it was an R50 with a R53 engine transplant .
Do you get any codes with the hood up and you just revving the engine?
The hood scoop is in place to cool the inlet air of your supercharger, which can only be a good thing. Your car is not breathing, I would take care of this problem first, then see what codes you get.

Good question. Intake air temperature (IAT) and pressure will read higher than they should, which will throw off air density and fuel calculations done by the ECM - in theory car could run rich or lean or just run weak and thirsty. The sub-optimal supercharger cooling as Gumbedamit points out would almost certainly shorten its life.

Besides engine and trans. Did they also swap over the engine management systems ? The original thread on this car didnt mention that.

Could you please explain more about engine management system?
I believed this car still have the old ECU, All function in the car still working in order. I think the original still in the car.

I assume the hood with the scoop is a must?

If that's the case that you still have the original R50 DME, you may need a special tune for what was done. Maybe check with the PO who did the mod, hopefully he moved the DME with engine.

Right now essentially as far as an R50 DME is concerned, you just added a supercharger that was installed on an R50 engine...it only knows how to dispense fuel for that engine specifications.

The pre-cat O2 sensor's job is basically air / fuel management.....Now on boost I would think this sensor is reading too much air or lean condition... would need to increase the parameters for fuel or risk buring up the valves.

If old DME, I'm inclined to think a custom tune would alleviate what your experiencing with the O2 sensor and help with the air/fuel management.....

Thank you for the explanation. The PO did not know anything about DME. So next step is taken care of the DME... I need some reference... It is getting more complicate but I kinda like it... You guys are awesome...

Yeah its basically like someone just bolted a turbo onto a naturally aspirated designed engine management system...it doesn't know how to deal with new A/F demands. I would also check if there are differences between the R50 and R53 pre cat 02 sensor....it's the "tip of the spear" in sending data to DME of what to do....

I put the car back on the stand. After two weeks test drive. Please advice:
1. ECU swap: Original R50 ECU to a donor R53 ECU. What do I need to do to make this happen. (I may be able to collect Body control module, security module, keys, from the same donor car)
2. O2 Sensor Replacement.
3. Harmonic Balance replace.
4. ABS sensor checkup as currently the ABS light has recently turn on. Unknown reason, it was off, after driving the car for a week, then brake light turn on then ABS light on permanent.
5. The rear disc brake needs to fix due to the hold-screw broken by PO.
6. Investigate the air flow without the hood scoop. some re-engineering may need to consider. Still put the idea together...
My first priority is swap ECU.
I am looking forward to finish this project.
Thank in advance. AL
