Supercharger planetary gear check... R53

As it would be, I just saw a similar post but didn't want to highjack but my question a bit different. I too have a 2004 R53 that I've obtained a replacement supercharger from a newer car (2005). Basically only gain is that it has teflon cover blades which is better for controlling heat from what I understand but I'm going with a 15% reduction pulley so I'm also able to basically pre-stage my replacement as another plus. I'm changing the pulley and oil during my process just to be clear. I've have seen many post over the years of owning this car working up to this point about the oil running out of the front and rear chambers. So with this replacement, I've was concerned with the planetary gears that drive the water pump. I've drain the oil, it had about .8 of ounce in it which I felt was good but wanted to know for sure that my gears were good before installing. So pulling the cover, the gears look great... very happy about that. My questions/concern is that I've noticed there is no sealant or rubber gasket... I put the two pieces back together and torqued to 18ft-lbs that I found noted on another site. Now I'm starting to question myself was I supposed to apply some form of sealant on these mating surfaces before I put them back together and torqued? I have yet to put oil back in so there's still time to fix this if I've made a mistake with this. Can someone provide me guidance OR their thoughts on this?

Thanks!

If it was me, I would put a thin layer of RTV Grey on those two surfaces before I bolted them back together. I'm sure someone else will be along to chime in....but that's strange that there is no seal or gasket....I can't imagine they are just relying on the machined surfaces to seal each other.
But I've never had my 170,000 mile supercharger apart yet......so I'm just guessing.

Yes you do need a thin layer of RTV to seal it up

I also found it strange when doing this maintenance recently that there wasn't a legitimate gasket, just the feintest residue of "something."

I personally opted to use a super thin, finger-applied layer of red (high-temp) liquid gasket in lieu of anything official that I could find.

Note - The drive gears in the Mini supercharger...are NOT of the "planetary" design. Just simple, straight cut tooth "spur" gear design.

Thanks for all the replies, very helpful. Also the info on spur gears NOT planetary gears... now I'll have to review that.

This...is a planetary gear set. A Sun gear, and a bunch of Planet gears, Then there is a ring/driven gear that goes on the outside of the planetary gears.
