Driver window motor making noise, but window not going up or down

Hey there! My teenager just bought his first car - an '06 Mini w/ 119k miles on it. The driver side window currently isn't working. The regulator seems to be making a noise if I toggle the switch, but the window does not go up or down. I can manually pull the window up and down with my hands though with ease.

I don't know the first thing about Mini's - any idea on what may be going on or needs to be fixed?

Sounds like the window regulator has gone bad.

Look here...

Welcome to the Mini fold, I hope he has a lot of fun in his car and stays safe!

There is a handy diagnostic piece here:

There is a handy guide to replacing the window motor here Its not too hard.

A decent set of Torx bits will be useful for working on the mini if you dont already have them.

Before you take the door apart look for instructions on how to 'thump' the inner door panel with your fist at a very specific location; frequently the motor is not burned out but just jammed, and thumping will free it up.

Could be the cable that has come apart.

you’ll have to physically check the regulator to see what’s wrong. I bought an 04 knowing the window didn’t work. I did a little investigating and found if I hit the door in a certain spot while holding the switch it would start to work. Amazingly it did. I bought a new motor anyways, but when I pulled everything out I quickly realized I would need the whole regulator and motor to fix the problem because there are some plastic end caps that are on the cable housings right before the bare cable goes into the pulley that were broken in half, letting the cable housing wedge against the pulley. You might have a simular problem. I have found the best price for an OEM assembly here’s:

I had a similar issue with the rear window on my ragtop. There were pictures in a thread here of one wired and glued back together so I guess its also an option, although I dont know how reliable it would be long term

BTW, I also ordered this for helping remove the window for next time. I wound up breaking torx bits and striping the torx bit bolt and had to use channel locks to remove the window, but used this to re install. Much easier
