My R52 passenger side rear window quit working today. It basically fell all the way down and completely quit raising back up. I removed the regulator to have a look and the photos are below.
The window is still attached and moving freely up and down. I feel like it I can re-tension the wire the entire regulator would be back in working order.
If I had to guess, the center guide that raises and lowers with the window failed in the past. Someone put it back together and it seems to be holding up. Any thoughts on how to approach this? I live in Hawaii so ordering replacement parts will take some time.
Regulator with the wire popped off the guides. Can't get enough slack to reattach. This guide is interesting. A lot of work went into salvaging this part!
Edit: I was successful restretching the cable and getting the actuator working again! Now I'm on to trying to reinstall and adjust it! Maybe a temporary solution, but it looks pretty good and is working outside the car.

I got the window back together and tested it out. The motor seems to be struggling to raise the window into the convertible seal. I suspect the assembly is out of adjustment. Perhaps extra torque / force on the regulator caused it to break.
I'm researching if / how I can adjust the window fitment now.
My drivers side failed yesterday in a similar way. The sliding plastic sleeve part (wrapped in wire in the above pics) that holds the two ends of the transport wire snapped in the same place. I'd jerry rig a similar repair, but the wire appears to have become wrapped around the capstan that the motor drives to push / pull the window up and down, and that seems to have eaten the plastic "threads" that guide it around the capstan as well, so I think its just easier to replace the assembly.
It could be your motor is struggling to move the capstan if your wire has also gotten wrapped around it?
