Summer problem

Anyone have the same issue that I'm having?

While I have the AC on, if I accelerate the whine of the AC compressor (it sounds like) is ridiculous and there is such a lack of power and that typical MINI thrill.

However, this is not the case if air fan is on. Only issues happen if the AC is on

Sounds like its time for a new A/C compressor.

I've noticed a similar problem, but it only happens when the climate control is in "Auto". It is a very low sounding whine. If I have just the AC on, no noticeable whine. Everything seems to work just fine. "Auto" and AC have been keeping the car cool in the current 90+ degree heat.

Still looking at a new, or reman compressor, tho.

I get a whine too only when AC is on. AC seems to be working fine though. Same car...05 MCS hyper blue! It's more whiney in city traffic.

Glad to know it's not just me. Car is sluggish as hell with my AC on, too. I got outrun on a merge lane by a Camry SE on the way to work this morning. :(

Would it be the compressor that is shot, or just the clutch mechanism? Whining noise is only there when the compressor is in use (ie, clutch engaged), and not when compressor is "freewheeling"?

Mine only whines when the AC is on. Otherwise the only whine is the supercharger... It's not so loud that I can't hear the SC. Makes me think it might be the compressor unless '05's just make that noise. It's always done it and hasn't gotten any worse and everything seems to be running fine.

I guess this is what's happening to me. Definitely not happening when AC is off. The whine happens under heavy acceleration
