Belt Trim Help

I'm helping my son wrap up some loose ends (pun intended) on his 2005 R53...his p-side rear quarter belt trim has a few broken clips at the back and it was sticking out about 3/4 of an inch where it wraps around the back. I was able to slide the belt trim piece off without damaging any more of the clips or the trim, but I can't find anyone who sells these clips for the rear quarter section (I've found the clips for the rear hatch and other sections of the belt trim, but not the rear quarters). Also, I know the body side of the clips slide to the side to pop off of the posts, but they appear to be wedged under the glass (pics are below).

So, here are my questions...

1. Where can I find these replacement clips for the body-side and the trim side?

2. How do you remove the body side clips after you snap them off the posts?

This is the piece of belt trim I'm talking about:

Here you can see the body-side clips that have the tabs broken off and how they're wedged up under the glass:

Here's the Trim-side clip that has the teeth a little chewed up. I'm afraid it may not lock in real well after I replace the body-side clips:

I have not owned an R53 but from your good pics the body clips appear to pop into the black post piece after sliding sideways.....maybe use a rubber mallet or something blunt that won't scratch the paint....surely you can find new clamps for the body& the belt trim.

Try realoem.com for the new clamps. Possibly use some lubricant/lube on the clamps to ease the install?

Someone who knows the proper procedure needs to chime in to help!

Good luck,

John

Thanks John...I was able to get them to pop off of the post by sliding them sideways, but when I tried to pry them out and up, they didn't seem like they wanted to come out from behind the edge of the glass where they're tucked up behind the glass. Perhaps I just didn't pry hard enough, but thought I would ask before I end up damaging anything.

Anyone else have any experience with these trim pieces and clips?

Thanks again!

Here is the clips, New they have a top and bottom tab. Looks like the tops tab snapped off, they clip and slide to the side. They are wedged into the cavity pretty tight with the back of that top tab. If the window was replaced n the side at one point they might have ran the weatherstripping cured seal pretty thick ( betalink ) and it might be stuck in that sealing material . Try to work it out in the sunlight or in a warm garage with a non marring tool. 51367044615 Tap them to the side, ( right ) , then lift from the bottom and turn up and out.

Thanks ECS...that's exactly what I'm looking for! Two more questions:

1). Do you have the other half of those clips that goes into the actual belt trim chrome piece? The ones on the back end got a little chewed up from what I assume was the trim bouncing against the other clips where it came loose (you can kind of see it in my last picture above). I just want to make sure the little teeth have enough bite and don't pop out of the new body clips.

2). So the body clips are supposed to be able to be removed without having to do anything with the glass right? They pop off the little metal post so that they wiggle a little, but they seem to go pretty far up behind the glass.

Thanks again...that's awesome!

"
Yep, unless the betalink touches them and makes it hard to pull out "

Thanks again...that's awesome!

You can buy them straight from MINI. I bought all the clips for the chrome trim and body for less then $20. Just call the parts department and they can ship them to you.
