06 MCS 101k with a P0341 code and lack of power
Hi, I have a 2006 MCS with 101k on the clock. I rebuilt the head due to a broken intake valve spring at 95k, and for the last 6k miles it has run like a top. I just had the CEL come on last week with a P0341 code for the cam position sensor. I changed the cam sensor, intake pressure sensor, crank sensor and still have the same thing. I verified the wiring for the cam sensor isnt near the plug wires or the coil pack to cause interference. I guess I am at a loss. I havent done an ohm check on the wires to the sensor yet. I am going to put my bore inspection camera in the sensor hole to take a peek at the cam reluctor to see if something is wrong there, other than that I am out of ideas. Anyone have any suggestions?
OK, so after letting the car sit for a few days with the battery disconnected and the ECM out I reassembled it and the light was gone. I drove it for over 300 miles in the last week and it ran like it's old self. Today however, the CEL came back and it is the same P0341 code. I am pretty sure the ECM is bad. I have located a couple of used ones online, but have a question. Which string of numbers on the ECM is the part number or do I need to match all the numbers? One place online has the exact match to mine and says it is for an automatic and the other that matches says it is for a manual trans like mine? One is $75 and the other is $175.

Replacing the ECU with a second hand unit will cause the immobilizer to prevent the engine from being started. The ECU needs to be synced to the EWS module. IIRC, this is not possible without special ECU programming.
I spoke to the dealer today and all signs point to a bad ECM. They will have pricing for me tomorrow. And I was afraid that I wouldnt be able to just plug in a new ECM and go. Anyone have experience with getting a used ECM reflashed?
Before I took the car to the dealer I pulled the ECM and cracked the lid open to take a look at the motherboard to check for anything obvious. I didnt find anything right off hand, but I am now wondering if it would be possible to swap the memory chips containing my cars info onto a good used motherboard. I dont think it would be any harder than changing chips on a pc...anyone?
So I just got a call from the dealer. They say it is either the timing or the ECM. $1200 to check the timing and $2100 for the ECM replacemnet, $3500 total out the door. Wonderful. And I cant seem to find a straight answer on whether you can put a used ECM in and make it work.
So, I got an ECM, Immobilizer, Key cylinder and Key, Speedo and BCM all from the same car and swapped them into my car. Car starts and seems to run fine. Only thing I noticed is the Xenon headlights will flash after 10 seconds or once I rev the motor. With the car off, key on, the headlights are fine so I know the Xenon controller is working. I am wondering if the Immobilizer isnt liking something.
