R50/53 May 2004 Build...anyone else? Wanna track each other's prog
>>>>I feel kinda silly, but I ordered plates today two months before the car gets here. I ordered ACTL SZ.
>>
>>Plates.. thats it??? I ordered:
>>
>>Alta intake, alta pulley, alta air diverter/water sprayer, alta short shift kit, alta gauge pod, magnaflow cat-back, Autometer Phantom boost gauge, Autometer Phantom Oil Temp (coming soon), "M7 Device", and a Unichip (coming soon). You got some catching up to do. My MINI should get here in a little over a week and it is just DYING to get past 1250 to get fitted with all its snazzy new gear!
Damn, Campos!
You're going to be tough to keep up with. Are you planning to autocross your MINI or just tear up the twisty bay area roads? Though I know next to nothing about engine mods, I would definitely like to see it after you get everything done. Depending on the number of MINI's coming north from Port Hueneme, our cars may be sharing a truck ride. Here's to smooth sailing this weekend and hopefully clear roads for the truck ride sometime next week.
Cheers,

Pete and other Heijin watchers: San Diego Marine lists the Heijin as the next ship in -- should be there tomorrow and leave Saturday. Maybe the 6th is realistic for Port Hueneme, but does anyone know whether these ports work seven days a week?

Hueneme works weekends IF and only IF the cars coming in are "priority 1". That meaning that the cars coming in already have an owner, which is the case for us. It looks like the Heijin will dock on the 6th if all goes well. I leave on the 7th for a trip to LA so maybe ill go pole my nose around the docks while im down there and give my MINI a proper welcome to the states .
I dont know about anyone else, but my MINI gets a designated "MINI's first drive" CD that is going to be played when I pick up the car. First song to be played in my car is going to be...... drumroll please......... Deftones - Be Quiet and Drive.
Flores, id love to show you my car once Ive got everything fitted. I am going to break it in before I install everything, so gimme a day or two
. At the time I dont have any plans on autocrossing the car, but that may change in the future. I just plan on tearing up the twisties on my drive to work everyday.
We are SOOOOOO close Heijin sailors, we will be MOTORING before you know it!

Ok, the Aida is officially off the oceanweather.com tracking. Not too surprising considering how close to NYC they are. Why report the waves when you're inside the range of the buoys, right?
Anyone hear from WannaMINI yet today? Or is she seeing the new Potter flick to get her Dobby fix?

I'm going to be pretty damn predictable and go with the Italian Job soundtrack.
JCampos, just saw the same thing. Great feeling that we finally have tangible information about the location of our cars!
When San Diego posts that it left later today, could that be the last thing we'll hear before our cars are at the dealers? By the way, the Heijin's next port is "TBN" -- anyone know the acronym?

Hi all.
I have found the answer for how to make the mini wait easier to deal with...
...spend thousands of $ to get your horse trained, when you go to ride her pre-pick-up have her go psycho and throw you, fracture a vertebrae (t-12) tear up a bunch of soft tissue in you back, sprain you neck, and spend 10 days lying on your living room floor with your legs elevated, staring at the cealing, heavily drugged. You totally forget about your mini for a while.
no sympathy please! I am just really p-ed off at the F-en trainer who has turned my sweet little horse into a freaked out, crazy, psycho who won't even let anyone pet her. Poor horse.
What's the progress on Doby Wannamini?
Anyone have news on the Freedom. I'm going back to sleep now.

Good Lord, WineChic--that's going to extreme measures to avoid obsessing isn't it? I'm so sorry--how are you feeling?
I'd wondered where you were the past few days. Glad to see you're back (no pun intended).
Good news about the Freedom--it has left the port in Charleston
We've hit dirt!!!!

Either that, or the horse knew that you were spending entirely too much time (in its opinion) obsessing over your new car and not enough attention on it. And I thought cats were spiteful.
WannaMINI has been odly silent the past few days. Although she's in the same boat that I and a few others are in right now. Our ship is here, our cars are somewhere in North America, but we can't track them anymore. Technically, Charlie is supposed to make it to the dealer on Wednesday, but I'm deffinitely not holding my breath. I just hope he's available by Friday, otherwise it'll be at least Tuesday before I can pick him up.
Winechic,
You're supposed to be in a befuddled haze in the last few days before your MINI arrives, but not like that!
Hope you continue to mend, and that the arrival of your baby makes you feel lots better.

Oh My Freaking Goodness
Take a look at my signature!!
He's here! He's here! He's here! AND, I'm MOTORING!
I took Friday off of work, hence my no postings that day, but I did come in ever so briefly on Saturday to do a couple of things, and lo and behold, my cell started ringing, but AFTER I saw an email from MA Julie that said, "He's here!" We were both threatening to drive to New Jersey ourselves because they weren't releasing him! And Julie being as great as she is made she mine was first in line for prep. The parts dept. are quite busy, so I'm not able to get back to the dlr. until Saturday to get the driving lights on, BUT Julie knows me, and she figured I couldn't wait, and she was right.
Two REALLY funny things about the car...
We were looking it over, and she was saying how there was something unique with Dobby that they had never seen before. Well, here is what is unique about him on his boot:

I have a choice if I want it fixed or not. One guy was saying to leave it because it was unique and may actually be worth something! But I am thinking I want it fixed...like Julie said, "Only Dobby."
AND, the second thing? You all remember the paint shop antics and the docs of course, and then the cruise ship over? Well, Julie opened up the boot, and lo and behold is a Margarita mixing kit!!!! It had two glasses, the mix, the salt, OMG - it was too funny. And a little IB wind up car.

Leave it. Deffinitely leave it. Dobby has personality, I'll give him that. But, you have to have his name -somewhere-on the car. If you don't then I'd get it fixed. If people see that and see his name they'll be slapping their foreheads muttering "it figures".
Now that's a good MA. Hopefully Tony at MINIMainLine is as good when I pick up Charlie this week or next.
Welcome home Dobby. Happy motoring!
Congratulations!!!!!!!
Spiffy looking Dobby he is. Interesting bit about the logo though...maybe that's why he was held up.
So did you get a sign that said "My name is Dobby?"
Julie is a pretty cool MA, have to admit she's real good at what she does.
Congrats again!

WannaMini----finally!! That's awesome. The car looks great, and you look like one happy motorer.
I *LOVE* the backwards badge. I would totally leave it. Get a correct one from the parts dept. (for free, I would think) and just keep it with all your paperwork in case you ever want to put it right.
Get ready to give lots of rides...I've had mine for more than a week and I'm still taking people for fun runs.
Enjoy!!!!
