West Coast update: The Heijin is due in San Diego on June 4 and leaves on June 5. That should put it in Port Hueneme on time on June 6. Hooray! Somebody finally heard from the ghost ship. Now if we can just avoid getting "Dobby'd" at the VPC, we'll be ok. I'm afraid Padre is as big a partyer as Dobby and might also have to be sent through rehab.

Wannamini: Congrats, you'll really be motoring soon now.

GoLikeSchnell: Great pics. It did fulfill my need for a MINI fix this morning.

sorry, I was being an F1 snob ... the formula 1 race at Indianapolis later this month is what I was referring to - the United States Grand Prix. but here's the cool thing... there will be MINI meets during the race weekend - a cruise through downtown Indy on Friday night the 18th, and a meeting of the Indiana MINI club on Saturday night th 19th. then there's a big corral of MINI parking only at the track for the race weekend. should be fun... but I went last year without a MINI and still managed to have fun!

Nevermind, I just looked at the port of san diego website and they have indeed made an update since this morning when I checked.... WOOHOO!!! 5 F**CKIN days til Im in the same state as my MINI Its about damn time!!

How long have you all been waiting? I ordered Feb 22nd from MINI of Mountain View. I know Sharky ordered there also so Im curious as to when he ordered his.

Awesome WannaMINI. I'm very happy for you! If you ever motor out to Pittsburgh (the vintage grand prix in July would be good) we'll have to get Dobby and Charlie together.

JCampos: Ordered on leap year -- which feels like years ago now.

Do any of the rest of you with cars on the Heijin have estimated arrival dates in the OL?

Sharky, I was told that I missed the May delivery by 1 car!! How shitty is that? We should get ours in about 10 days. Cant wait to get Motoring!!! Oh and no, our EDD all disappeared the same day!

 

I ordered on March 27. So two months + I'm not complaining seeing how some people wait so much longer...

 

That would be great! I plan to look into some get togethers within the region - I think they would be sooooo much fun!!!

 

i ordered mine april 28.

 

I ordered on March 20th and picked up the car on May 15th, exactly 8 weeks later.

 

I ordered April 3rd, picked up May 15th. 6 weeks here. I was told the wait for the MC was less than the MCS.

I've updated the list to the best of my knowledge, and no, Dobby is not getting a pink thong! hee hee hee I will however give him a sock, but do we actually want to set Dobby free?

 

hi everybody-

you guys are gonna have so much fun. I've somewhat obsessed over this car since its introduction, what was it, 4 years ago? and now that I have it, it's truly better than I ever imagined it would be. that is a rare feeling. there will be NO buyers' remorse setting it that I can foresee.

this whole order-deliver thing is mind boggling. with the risk of creating intense jealousy (especially with WannaMini!!), my order-delivery time was an astounding four weeks. I placed my order on April 28 and the car arrived at my dealer on May 27. I picked him up Saturday May 29. This is a car that was on the Independence with the legendary Dobby.

how it happened I have no idea. maybe I'm just livin right. I'm not gloating, I swear!!!

 

Hey Trev! You were at the right dealer at the right time. Took me awhile to learn how it works, but orders are placed months and months and months in advance by the dealerships - but they are virtually "placeholders". They spec out the car as if it was for inventory. When someone comes in to order a car, the dealership takes one of the "placeholders" and changes the spec to what you want.

That's my understanding of it all. So your dealer had an open space at the right time! Karma!

 

Ditto that here! My favorite line from your article is..."I can parallel park like a ****" Too bad I never street park; I may need to try it anyway and then just pull out right away

 

I count myself as so lucky with this car...everything has fallen into place, from my personal finances, to the financing obtained for the new car, to selling my Golf, to the speedy delivery...it goes on. I think I was meant to have it. And I love it to death.

The Pepper White does show dirt something awful, though...we've had afternoon storms each day this week and Owen just keeps getting dirtier. The hatch is the worst area. (and yes, I'm alternating between Owen and Mr. Newitt...not sure which I like better for the MINI's name).

My co-worker who has a 2002 MCS drove my '04 yesterday...came back saying she's got to get the software to fix the stumble...
