Ive memorized mine as well. I think that there are plenty of people on here who have their VIN memorized. Professional help isnt needed when you come to NAM, thats what we are all here for! We are ALL insane and we can understand eachothers insanity... ITS GREAT!

Maybe NAM is the asylum. Maybe the moderators are actually the shrinks. Maybe there's no such thing as a MINI, and we're all imagining this.

Wow. What a day. starts with the OL moving my delivery back a day.

fast forward two hours: I'm sitting at the Reds game, 3rd inning, cell phone rings. It's Cincinnati MINI.

My car is at the dealer. (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

WannaMini, I have no idea how this happened, but it's here. And it still has no name. I got to see it tonight, it's looking good. sorry, i rushed over there, didn't bring a camera. I'll post pics as soon as it's home.

There's an outside chance that I'll get it on Saturday, but Tuesday is more likely - they got 20 cars in today to prepare, and they have to install my alarm and the aux audio.

so anyway - I am updated to AT THE DEALER. unbelievable.

Wallenius & Wilhelmsen's website tells me that my MCS had been put on a vessel named "GRUS". Really Cool. It also tells me that my MCS was:

Also really exciting!

Now comes the mystery....when I try to track ship by name it doesn't show up. Of course the MINI owners lounge is behind and I don't know if the vessel GRUS has sailed and if my MCS is still on it or if my car got bumped.

When I enter vessel I get: "No information available for this vessel name, please enter valid vessel name"

 

Motormad, this usually happens when the ship your MINI is on is not actually owned by WW, but rather they rent space on the ship for the voyage. A more accurate way to track your MINI is to go follow these steps:

1. Get the name of the vessel your MINI is on. In your case, this is "Grus"

2. Check out the coast guards ship listing and get the call sign for this ship. Sometimes you will get multiple ships with the same name, but just check for the freight or cargo ship with this name.

The call sign for your ship is 3FQK4

3. Now you can go to either accuweather.com OR oceanweather.com OR both to see if you can find your ship anywhere!

Type your call sign into the box labeled "Specific Sites" and hit "decoded". If you get results, they will be the last lat and long numbers that your ship was at when it reported the weather. If you dont get results or it says something like "Illegal Item" then you may not be able to track on this site.

Click on the area you think your ship may be in at the current time. Usually this will be the atlantic region. That will bring you to another page that has a colorful little map in the middle. Click the "Marine Observations" link on the top and its time to play wheres my callsign! Look for your callsign (3FQK4 in case you forgot) on this map. If you find it, thats where your ship was at last time it reported weather.... if you dont find it, dont be too sad... alot of ships dont report the weather. Especially ones coming to Port Hueneme.

Oh and when it says "Loaded on Vessel", this usually means that the boat has sailed.

 

I have to assume that Buckass has gotten the the dealer - or he might even be motoring now since he hasn't posted in awhile. If he's still not released to the carrier today, then I don't know what is going on. Poor Dobby. Sitting all by himself probably still at the VPC. He's a veteran there now. In fact, they've probably employed him. Put an orange vest on him and given him a light stick to direct all the newbies where to go. Maybe it's a work release program for his causing so much strife in the factory, on the train, on the docks, on the ship...well, I guess he's been an ornary little car. BAD DOBBY!!!

I honestly believe that I am going to weep openly when I get that call that Dobby finally reached the dealer...

 

As of 9:20 a.m. e.d.t. this morning, still no release yet. WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY??? It's not even really funny anymore, and I'm having a hard time making jokes about it. This has ruined my day and my holiday weekend, and I still have it in the back of my mind that something was wrong with him that made them pick him out of the line - a serious "UH-OH." So then what was wrong with him? And how did they fix him? Did they Jimmy rig something to let it "pass" standards? Oh, I just don't know what to think.

Julie estimated that he'll show up sometime next week. If their regular truckload shows up w/o him on in in the meantime, then I have to assume that something is definitely wrong with him. I don't want a car that has already been "fixed" before I even get him as a "brand new car." I wish I wouldn't have read that VPC Port Huneme thread - it's amazing that they "fix" these cars and then sell them as brand new. My poor poor Dobby.

I am just sad beyond belief - over a car. Seems silly, I know...... I guess I'll just have to watch The Italian Job for the 20th time over this weekend...

Hang in there. This waiting is making us all crazy--and I know I'd be going bonkers if Pigwidgeon were at the VPC for as long as Dobby has been--but try not to worry too much. There may be a completely (stupid) reasonable, but non-nefarious reason for his delay.

I'm so sorry about him not being ready for Memorial Day weekend--that just sucks.

Hang in there, and know that we are all pulling for Dobby's safe arrival at home.

WannaMini, you and Dobby have my deepest condolences. How in the world could we be on the same boat, we live in the same state, and be having such dramatically different delivery experiences?

Modern manufacturing and distribution - they giveth and they taketh away. That's about what it comes down to I think. All this crap is computerized, and if your number comes up you're good to go, and if you get a number in a different list, you go with that.

How many days has it been there? I'm sure youll have it before you know it. You are going to be in the bathroom drawing the frame of a MINI on the mirror JUST so you can see how you look in the car (yea, sunglasses and everything) when all of a sudden youll get a call saying your MINI is ready to be picked up!

 

Worse and worse. My estimated arrival date is gone today. It was there last night...The dealer (Mini of Mountain View) says they won't know until it reaches Port Hueneme. Anyone have any better information? This is getting really discouraging.

Don't worry, WannaMini ... trust me on this one...the bizzare fates of shipping may consprire against you, but there is NOTHING wrong with little Dobby. He's AOK and in tip top shape...just having a bit of trouble hitching a ride home!

Dont worry sharky. The ship gets in on the 6th at the latest, thats definite. I also ordered through MINI of Mountain View! Who is your MA? Ben? Looks like you and I will get our MINIs on the same day! When did you order yours? I ordered Feb 22nd.

Here is the way I am rationalizing it. The boat gets in 9 days from today. That means we should have our MINIs within 2 weeks!

What spec is yours? Ill look for it when I am at the dealership. Im the PW/B MCS with black bonnet stripes.
