R50/53 Dashboard Rattle
Dashboard Rattle
Ive been dealing with this wierd issue for MONTHS.
Ok so whenever i have the rpms between 1500-2000 rpms, i get a nerve wracking rattle, sometimes quiet, sometimes not.... It is not speed related, since it does it when the car is still. Like i said, it only happens between 1500-2000 rpm, then it goes away.. What could this be

I don't know if it's the same, but I have a rattle right behind the thermostat display. It sounds like it's coming from all over the front of the car but I finally narrowed it down to it. But I'd rate it's sound to be just irritating. Could be a lose nut or a clip ...
Secret compartment? ???? Where is this compartment
You're kidding... or was that a serious question?
The secret compartment is the area above the glove box. Press it in, and watch it pop open...
heh, if you didn't know about it all this time...

This is a Gen 1 post.
BTY - I have a behind the dash rattle on my '04. Not so bad I have looked, though.

Does the rattle sound like a marble in a cup? Sometimes over bumpy roads? It already rattles around 2,000 rpm like mine did.
Try this:
Get some 1" square window air conditioner insulation from some hardware store, and start stuffing it along the windshield and dash seam. The idea is to keep the edge of the dash plastic from vibrating at it's end by steadying it on the windshield. I have mine trimmed to match the whole windshield width and stuffed down enough to barely be visible.
No more rattle. Before this I used a piece of paper folded up many times and stuffed it between the dash and windshield in the center. My car had made this rattle since practically new and the dealer couldn't find or fix it.
Thanks, isthar, the next time I break into a 2nd gen car, I will know where the goods are...
