Radio swap issues..

Purchased a used after market head unit from a wrecked 02 mini cooper. Looks like its plug and play, but when I connect the 2 adapters and the wire plug... I get nothing. Any ideas? See pics. Thanks

This is the original radio back

The 02's had a different head unit than 03's and up.

Can't even install an AUX input/harness into the 02's.

Yes. I realize that its a different radio, but you would think they wouldve made some sort of adapter to work with other components? Id hate to start splicing wires if I dont have to.

There may indeed be an adapter for that aftermarket radio (what is it?) to fit your MINI. You'll have to do research to see if one is available. All adapters are aftermarket items created by radio manufacturers or electronics retailers. Try someplace like Crutchfield.

the radio is a pioneer deh-p3100. The problem I have is, do you have to switch out the wire harness when you add a later model HU in an '02 mini?

No. The main connections are the ones with the flat blade pins, and the wiring for those never changed throughout the life of the 1st generation MINI. The headunits are interchangeable for all years. The newer ones just have additional features.

There is a pinout diagram in this thread: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...nd-system.html. The white connector with 12 pins is for an optional CD Changer.

Does the radio power up at all? You can see if these manuals are any help:

ok, the red accessory wire is not connected to anything. Its wired to its on 10am fuse, but the end is not connected its cut and capped off with a plastic cap. Should the red wire still connect to something inside the car?

FIXED!! The problem was the red ACC that I figured was fine since it was connected to a fuse. WRONG! So I spliced into the purple/blue acc wire to the mini harness. Easy as Pie!
