R50/53 Hood stripes worth anything?
I picked up my new MCS this w/e and did not have the hood stripes installed. However, they did come in the package I bought so I would think that the dealer should have given them to me since it's a $100 option. (He did however give me free floor mats).
Do the stripes have cash value? Could I sell them to someone for, say $50?

OK. I guess I'll just let the dealer keep them. After all, they were really nice people, gave me free floor mats, oh, and free leather seats too!!!
Well, not exactly free leather, but as good as. They worked the numbers so I got the leather seats yet my monthly payment for traditional financing stayed the same. Extra came from VERY agressive financing rate, some 2% lower than I could get anywhere else.
Those guys at MINI of the Hamptons are solid business people and will do whatever it takes to make a sale. Anyone wanting to get a deal should call Jerry Haslloran at (631) 283 0888. Just tell him what you want and he'll make you an offer you can't refuese!
And guess what? They have LOTS of cars just waiting for customers. All their 'S' cars get the 3 packages plus the HK stereo.

That's a silly way for the dealership to get people to spend more $$$.
In the words of the famous Randy Webb - a stripped S is the way to go.

I think it's more a case of knowing their customer. The Hamptons is an area if multimillion dollar beach homes and the MINI is a perfect present for graduation from high school. To buy your kid a stripped S is considered being cheap
btw, I don't live any where near the place

Well, then I must be a "cheapo" because I did not order my new '04 MCS with neither of the 3 packages and I feel that "less" is better when it comes to the Cooper S. I got a few options "A la carte" like the Rain sensing wipers, the automatic rearview mirror, front fogs, HK Stereo, MFSW, Trip Computer, Chrome front grille, Chrome mirror caps and that's about it. The car looks like a million bucks and did not spend a penny over $21K as ordered from the factory. People that approach me and ask about the car think I spent at least $30K and their jaws drop when I tell them the final price.
In my local MINI club there is another member that bought a new '04 MCS (Same color as mine) with just the MFSW and nothing else. These cars are performance pocket rockets, not posh Lexus sedans, but hey to each his or her own.

i'm not sure if you are asking: did you do it yourself?
And yes, I did do it myself. Took 45 min to an hour. There is 1 small bubble on the right (from the cockpit) stripe that is noticeable up close.
i do not regret doing it, i have seen imperfectly "professionally" done ones.
I got the stripes from outmotoring, i liked the width

All the more reason NOT to buy there, as far as I'm concerned. Obviously they're not interested in selling you the car you actually want; they're just trying to take advantage of people who are faced with long wait times elsewhere by dangling fully loaded cars "on the lot" in front of them. Most dealerships seem to have abandoned these coercive tactics by now, but I guess the Hamptons are such an obscenely rich area that the dealership can afford to alienate the dirt poor (i.e., family income under $150k
) segment of their potential customer base. Lame.
If you didn't want the stripes, you shouldn't have had to pay for them.

If you look at what it would have cost to order the other items in that package that I wanted, I did't pay for them anyway.
And yes, in the Hamptons area, a household income of less that $150,000 a year is considered poor!! If they loaded the forecourt with basic cars, no options, they'd just sit there for a loooong time. I visited Prestige MINI in Mahwah NJ during my quest and they said that the average price of a car out of their door was around $25,000. The MA said that quite a few go out the door at over $30,000, all options plus the JCW treatment.
