My wipers are jumpy...

I don't know why it is, but my wipers are jumpy as heck! Granted, they're not the original wipers, but the OEM ones were just the same. They jump a few times, then make that awful rubbing sound when they stop jumping and go back down.

Anyone else got this problem? And no, they're not on backwards.

Try some WD40 on the blades, and wax your windshield.

Wax your windshield, or if you can get some rain-x, use that on the windshield. If this doesn't work, you may find yourself replacing your windshield wipers before too long as well.

I have been told waxing the windshield (or using soap with the added wax) can make the wipers jumpy and noisy. Try windex, it may help. Doesn't graphite powder on the blades also help? Seeing as new blades come covered in it.

Very interesting.

My girlfriend's got a 2000 Ford Taurus and she hasn't replaced hers in the year and a half that she's had it, and they're practically silent. Her car is also dirty as heck. Haha.

I'll try the Rain-X...

Eight times better than RainX, and I like Rain X!

...and don't forget the side glass!!! (keeps water from gelling up, dramatically improves visibility).

You know anything by PPG is good stuff What a great reputation they have in the automotive industry! I actually had the same problem with my OEM blades during a rainstorm going out to the dragon two weeks ago. It was soo bad it actually left rubber residue on the windshield that will only come off with some glass cleaner and a razor blade. I'm gonna try waxing the windshield first as that seems to make sense. If no luck I'll definitely look into that PPG stuff.

Use a very good glass cleaner, or preferably a water/vinegar solution, to clean the glass and then put a light coat of water repellant (I prefer the Rain-X) on. Too much and it will cause problems, so go light.

FIRST - use your old clay bar on the glass to get it beyond clean. Then see if you need the rain-x still....

Ya... Usually, the most detailing I can afford is an at home car wash/wax and a vaccuuming of the inside.

I was a RainX user for years, that PPG stuff doesn't have the streaking problem that RainX has with wiper use, and lasts 3-6x longer - and even though I live near Pittsburgh, I'm in no way compensated by PPG for this endorsement!

Now, I do have to get a clay bar...
