Mounting the Scanguage II

I'm thinking of buying a Scanguage II but I'm in a quandry as to where to mount it. If anyone has a solution I would really like to see a picture of your mounting solution.

Frank

Here's my writeup with pics.

I love this spot. Easy to see, easy to reach, out of the way, easy to wire, no obtrusive cables, mostly hidden from the outside by my inspection sticker. I put a piece of black-out tape over the port on the end, which makes it look even better.

Nice, Blimey! I may have to do that.

No pics, but currently I have mine just laying in front of the OEM gauge bundle between the downtubes. Have to take out the lighter for it to fit, but it's stable, and low enough that I can still see the oil temp needle (I don't bother with the voltmeter, though that shows, too)

edit: Blimey you should give some love to Way Motor Works in your writeup (he'll sell to NAM for $150 shipped, matching another 'group buy')

Mine is mounted on a home-made bracket in the center-stack cubby:

I like that bracket and install

But that's where I have my G-Timer installed.

That's where mine is - note that if you're really lazy, you can just lay it there (lighter removed) and wedge the wire behind the gauges (if so equipped.)

It reports actual MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure), and it calculates theoretical HP based on various engine parameters. You can program it to calculate approximate boost by subtracting a constant for your local atmospheric pressure. Read my blog post and you'll learn more.

But there are LOTS of other things to know about your car (in fact, things you can actually use and do something with), other than boost and HP...

Mine's mounted like Miniac's. Except I just have it velcro'd to the underside of the toggles (not sure it that will work pre-R56). That way, I still have access to the cubby.

Anyone know if Mini frowns upon plugging into the ODB-II port while under warranty?

If they do, they'll need to discuss it with CARB (California Air Resources Board), as they require connecting to the OBDII for smog checks.
Really though, no. You're not CHANGING anything in the car, you're just listening to what it has to say.

I just have mine mounted over my Navi (Right above the center Speedo if you don't have Nav). It's a good location for me cause my dash area is already too busy with gauges.

I've got my Speedo, Tach, Air Fuel, Oil Pressure and Oil temp gauges all mounted directly ahead. It's nice to be able to glance to the right a bit and see that, but not have it right in front of me. I'll take a picture when i can.

Even if they did they wouldn't have a way to tell. The OBDII port is for diagnostics, and tracks quite a bit of information. There's no reason why they'd care if you plugged into it.

I like the way Miniac has it the best. I have my navi mounted there though. I have mine mounted like Blimey. It's ok, but I may move it to the center of the dash. There are two downfalls with the dash mount. One is that it can be seen from outside the car. The other is that it is slightly crooked. I may move it to the center. It would be hidden from outside view by the wipers and be more consistent with the rest of the car. If you have nothing under the radio I would suggest mounting it there, it's the most stealthy. The downfall is that you have to look down to see the readouts. It really depends on what you use it for I guess.
I have mine set for speed and I'm going to add boost. Those two I want to see as a heads up. The other two readings are intake temp and water temp. I just need to check those occasionally.
As a side note...the orange color does match well with the rest of the lights.

Scangauge far left - Navi under the radio
