Electrical ScanGauge II - Anyone ever tried one of these?

I've had mine plugged in for about 9 months. No problems. I plugged it in and then tucked the cord behind the weather stripping next to the dash and then up the A-pillar (held in place and somewhat hidden with white vinyl electrical tape) to the sun visor. I canabalized a sunglasses holder for the visor clip, and mounted the scan gauge to the driver's sunvisor where I can easily see it without losing my view of the road.
I typically display mph (real ECM signal, which is different than what the speedo shows, plus compensation for tire diameter), intake air temp, and water temp. The forth displayed reading is whatever I feel like at the time.

turbo boost = MAP (maifold absolute pressure), which is an absolute pressure and not gauge (meaning that the number doesn't factor in atmospheric pressure so when the engine is shut off you'll see roughly 14.5psi depending on altitude).
The sensor exists on the R53 and I'm sure it will also be on the R56. It's even found on naturally aspirated cars.

In other words, it does show booast, just not with the numbers you are used to seeing, much the same way F and C show temperature. C "factors in" freezing temp, F doesn't. It's just a matter of getting used to the numbers you see.

I have the Scangauge II and use it connected all the time.. No problems at all.. I like it because I can watch the boost (MAP), intake air tmep (IAT), water temp (WT) and timiing advance (IGN).. Just make sure to keep you eyes on the road - be safe...

What type of bracket did you fab up to make that sit there? I keep looking at these and just can't bring myself to get one. This might just change my mind!
Does the backlight look like a pretty good match?
Have you used the HP function? I like that they do upgrades, even though some of them might cost in the future. Also good that it's CAN compatible for future vehicles...

I'm actually suprised way is selling it for that cheap. he told me about it and his price during the atl dyno session. I got to play with it for a bit and I was impressed with both.
It's a darn good price... and to get a better one (save $10 bux) you're going to have to deal with some shady etailer. Might as well support some one from the mini community as far as i'm concerned.

I used to have a Fischer C-Box mounted in the center stack cubby:
The original bracket for the C-Box was fabricated ala "Erector Set" from about $3 worth of bits from Home Depot (frame angles [2], tie plates [3], sheet metal shingles [1] and machine bolts plus nuts [4]):
Instructions for making a single piece version of the above bracket can be found here.
For the Scangauge mounting I removed the "locking" base for the C-Box and used the holes for it to attach an L-bracket made from another sheet metal shingle:

The back of the Scangauge is velcroed to the face of the L-bracket and the rear portion of the bottom of the Scangauge sits atop the ~ 0.5" front edge of the original bracket.
The bracket is fitted by loosening the #2 Phillips screw inside each cup holder, lifting up the cup holder surround (console) enough to slip the bracket "foot" underneath and retightening the Phillips screws. If the bracket wobbles a little you can attach round (approximately 1.00" diameter and 0.125" thick) self-adhesive rubber bumpers to the bottom and/or top of the "foot" to snug it up. I ended up with a stack of three on the bottom and one on top.
DISCLAIMER:
I'm not sure this bracket will fit a MINI built 2004-07 or later, it depends how similar the Console (#14 pn 51167147194) is to that (#3 pn 51167038451) on earlier models. At a minimum, you'll need to remove the Utility Box (#2 pn 51167121738) and replace it with a Center Covering (#5 pn 51451512843).
I selected amber backlighting. You can customize the backlighting color but I haven't tried it.
I've programmed the HP function but haven't played with it yet.

I've been using mine for almost a year...
...I just made a little bracket for in front of the tach. Makes it easy to compare IATs with ambient that way.
I have found my Autometer boost and water temp gauges in the background to be right on with what the ScanGaugeII reads.
Definitely a cool little device.

The ScanGauge ][ rocks. Saved my butt twice now by exposing rising temperature trends that did not show on the stock gauge (with it's comfy ~20-30 degree cushion...).
I keep it on FWT, volts, MAP, and IAT usually.
Won't clear all codes - just those pertaining to the drivetrain (airbags, etc. are on a different circuit). Actron is the same deal, so no advantage to those. The ScanGauge is mucho better IMHO given its size/options.
Can't recommend it enough.

Out the back of the SGII, under the rubber flap that's attached to the trim piece behind the tach and down to the OBD connector. The excess cord is bundled behind the panel under the steering column.
