Hi, considering a BRG/W MC w/ chrome inserts and contemplating the rear spoiler. Just concerned that it will ruin its classic look. I think they look nice on the S with kit, but not too sold on the base model. What do you guys think?

The spoiler on the Cooper is not as extreme as the one on the S. I like the way mine looks with it. In no way could you ever consider something like that ricey....it's not like it's really large and rediculous looking.

It just adds a little something extra.

i got mine installed by the dealer before pick up. looks cool, i think. just to let you know though, somehow my rear roof spoiler is a bit bigger than the others, even the MCS. it's one solid piece compared to the MCS, which has some space in the center section between the edge of the roof and the start of the spoiler. it's kinda like a arch design. mine's is not an arch at all. it's just one solid piece. and juts out much further than the already-factory-installed MC and i believe just as far as the MCS. it does look cool though and certainly adds a custom touch to the MC. just to let you know, i did pay a bunch for it and the install by the dealer, ~$400-$500.

Wow...That's pretty pricey. I think I'll go for the factory one. Do you have a pic of yours by chance?

sorry, i don't. i think i saw a picture somewhere...might be the mini accesories book in the aero kit. in fact, i think that's what we eventually figured out. it looks exactly like the aftermarket aero kit rear spoiler.

I have the MCS, and I have seen them on the MC, and I think that the car looks better with the spoiler, because it is not to big.

I could be prejudiced, just because I have the spoiler (BTW, it's the supposedly "extended" one mentioned above, I believe); but I think that without the spoiler, it sort of looks unfinished for some reason...whenever I see a Cooper on the streets without the spoiler, it makes me get a little misty eyed: like the Mini's been "fixed."

Sorry in advance for stating the obvious, but there are three different spoilers. The MC version is the smallest, the MCS version is a bit larger, and the spoiler from the accessory catalog (that you can add to either MC or MCS) is the largest.

rrypma is talking about adding the accessory catalog spoiler to his MC instead of the usual MC spoiler.....I think.

IMO none of these are the least bit ricey - none of them are anywhere near large, obnoxious, out of place, or poorly fit enough for that label.

Something that blends that nicely into the roofline couldn't be ricey if it tried.. I like them, because it extends the roof and keeps it from looking overly rounded in the back...

i agree...without it i think it would look like it's just missing something back there. the roof line would just end. instead it extends quite nicely out and over the center brake light. kind of like it gives the mini a "chin" back there. oh yeah, i just estimated with my hand - ring finger tip to thumb tip maximally spread out - that it's about 7 1/2" at its furthest point, which is at the center. go get it. just find a cheaper price than i paid. i think install was as much as the spoiler itself if not more.

Actually, I was initially asking only about the factory MC spoiler. As it is the smallest of th 3, I think I'll stick with that. Thanks for your replies!

The Factory MC spoiler looks nice. and like L.mini said it's not as extreme (if you want to call it that) as the MCS.

JCW even put on an nicer and not ricey spoiler:

i'm not much for the spoilers, when i get my S, i'm gonna take it off!
i'm sure my opinion is of the minority though!

Maybe a minority, but not unique.

Of the three, I think the US Cooper spoiler is the least offensive - sort of a ducktail effect. However, I want my car to look like a MINI, not a Subaru.

My MCS will be unspoiled in a couple of weeks...

If you're talking about the MC or MCS stock spoiler then I think they're great..If you're talking about an aftermarket spoiler with struts, etc then 'fraid not...doesn't suit the car at all.

I didn't get the factory spoiler on my Cooper, and I think it looks kinda funny without it. . . not funny enough to get me to part with any money, though

It does have sort of a "classic-er" look without it, but I think they look a little nicer with it back there.

OctaneGuy just replaced his MC spoiler; you might check with him and see if he's sold his old one yet. $400-500 does seem ridiculous.
