Solution for dummy temp guage???

Took Schultze in for some warranty work:

1. Temp guage is stuck in the middle and NEVER moves...not even after parking the car overnight.

2. Engine bay was extremely hot--bonnet was very hot to the touch--parked it at 3:30pm in the shade and the engine bay didn't cool down until 8pm or so.

3. Dealer checked thermostat, sensors, etc. and said that the guage is frozen (a "common" occurence).

So...I need some recs on where to get an actual temp guage, oil pressure guage, etc.

Thanks!

Try eBay, AutoMeter, Ultra-Lite series.

If you went in for warrenty work, make the dealer fix it. Your under warranty, use it

Dealer said everything was working fine...that the "stuck needle" is a common occurance and doesn't require replacing the guage.

The field rep is going to be taking a look at my car on the 13th...not just for the temp issue, but other issues as well.

I sure want to know how this comes out. Please tell us what CF does. The couple a few doors up from me hates them for their service issues so I would like to know what happens. (I didn't do this double post, the puter did it)

Whether the gauge is broken or not, the needle isn't working correctly, therefore it should be replaced. Fight this one, if that dealer says no, take it to another dealer.

The fact that something is "common" - i.e., a defect, doesn't mean it is okay. A temp gauge is supposed to show temp. If it don't, it's broken. Make them replace it. That would be like an insurance company refusing a claim becuase it's common for a car to get denting in a wreck.

different subject line....

Maybe the problem is that you need to regroup.....

the subject line might be: why does MINI-USA refuse to fix XXX despite my being under warranty? And..... Why I gave a ZERO on the service feedback survey.....

Can't hurt .... your current path doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

The temp gauge needle should fall to rest after turning off the key. I would have it fixed by a dealer, or you can try a cluster reset by the procedure on MINI2 that claims to be a ECU reset.

I also would like to know how they "checked" the thermostat. They must have x-ray vision to look through the housing to see if it's opening or not.

Is the extremely hot engine bay and bonnet an issue you just noticed? Did it cool down quicker before? My car used to bake for a while before I removed the hood insulation and installed hood vents.

Just a suggestion, but for a replacement gauge for your temp along with a whole slew of other metrics, how about the Scangauge?

http://www.scangauge.com/

I have the "older" and "clunkier" version of it, but it works great! It'll actually give you the temp in degrees or celsius depending on how you set it up. It won't affect your ECU, although it does run off the OBD port.

One of the most valuable features is its ability to read OBD trouble codes - AND reset them!
