NYC area MINIs!

I can't help but notice an overwhelming number of MINIs in and around the 5 boros of NYC. I love the fact that I see so many of them, but to the best of my knowlege there is no club specific to the city. I know there are clubs in Long Island, Connecticut and Jersey, but its not always easy to get to the runs and events that they hold becuase of the distance i have to travel just to be in their local.

What I'm trying to do is see if there are local MINI owners who be interested in a local club. I'm trying to start something here and wanted to see if I could get an idea for the amount of interest that there may or may not be. I'm in Park Slope BK and there are a TON of MINIs here and a local shop that restores classic Minis as well.

If anyone is interested, let me know so we can get this started! And if anyone reads this but isn't in the area, but has some ideas to help get something going please let me know. I'm already corresponding with Kurt of DCMM whos helping a lot and I'd love to hear what other people have to say as well.

ANY feedback would be greatly apprecaited!
even if its just an idea for a name
MOONY? mini owners of new york
BAM? big apple minis. I dunno just thinking out loud hahah

i live in TriBeCa. i own a Mini. im down.
only thing is my Mini almost never gets driven in the city due to suspension issues. do i still qualify?

as far as a name goes?

mine is a play on words from one of my favorite tourist T shirts - " NEW YORK PH*CKIN' MINIS" (NYFM - lends itself to using the NYPD or NYFD logo. dont it? lol)

i dont know...thats all i got right now.

Of course the burbs are welcome. I was just using the city as a general area, but i don't discriminate.

And DOPMINE, I've met you before at the Prestige BBQ run in the spring and down at the dragon. You have the carbon hood and the wavey rotors right? I remember you telling me that they sounded like a "baseball card on a bicycle wheel" and then you had ECU prblems with the elevation. Maybe I'm thinking of someone else, I like to think that I have a pretty good memory. PS2 etc...?

I <3 (MINI) NY maybe....maybe not? but have MINI skewed in the shape of the generic heart. Instantly recognizable if printed on a t-shirt or a decal..

MDNY (MINI Dept NY in the FDNY logo. Same for NYMD for the PD logo)

BRAINSTORM!!!!!

I'm game to join the NYC mini club. I'm also in BK! There are tons of MINI's in my 'hood.

Can't think of a name off the top of my head, but I'll keep thinking.

Heck, just drive west, skp over Neew Jersey, and join up with the Pittsburgh club (www.pittstopmini.org). We have some neat stuff going on, even a two day event later in October that may just be worth the drive.

NYFM indeed...

Count me in from the mean streets of the upper east side (it's fun dodging nannies and strollers).

SWEET! I'm so glad there's already a pretty good response. A little better than I was expecting at this point after only having the post up since like midnight last night!

That's why you should never drive during the day. Late nights are best. Challenge taxi drivers to a competition of who can time green lights the best!

I don't know why, but a parade of MINIs going up/downtown at night has me amused.

(I used to live in the city for four years, two as a car owner/driver)

Damn taxi drivers. w/e, they fear ME!

On 3rd and 1st ave going uptown and 2nd ave going downtown I think if you drive about 25mph or so you won't have to step on the brakes. My girlfriend is in the 70s on 1st so I'm over in that area going uptown to meet her and back downtown to go home alllllll the time

But rush-hour traffic and I don't get along very well </3. Especially trying to go crosstown from where I work all the way on the west side

I think Fry from Futurama said it best: "No one ever drove in New York. Too much traffic."

Often times I think about moving back to the city but now that I have my MINI I don't know where I'd conceivably live. Probably Queens again, I guess.

I like the "MINY" suggestion for a club name. Pretty clever!

I knooooow!! This this is loooong overdue. As far as ease of getting around the city I think sundays are the best. Let me be the first to suggest a date since nobody has mentioned anything. How about Sunday, The 23rd of September? I think this should give people enough time to clear the date if possible.

let me know what days are best for people. between now and then, we should be able to figure out a destination for whatever day we actually meet up...

I actually don't have my Mini yet but when I do I am definitely in. I was wondering not long ago why there wasn't a club specific to the city. There's plenty of Mini's here in Astoria, Queens too.

"YET" being the operative word! I hope you're getting close.

Until then, if you happen to know any MINI owners please let them know what we're trying to do here. The more the merrier.. not to be cliche..

I'm trying to think up and design a flyer that I can put on the windows of the MINIs in my neighborhood becuase as many people as there are on NAM, I'm sure I won't be able to reach everybody. If anyone wants to help, PLEASE do so. When we get a design that we like maybe we could all keep a few in the car for random sightings
