Navigation & Audio [eas] Official DICE iPod integration kit Q/A thread
Are you using the previous generation DICE or the SILVERLINE?
I've got the Silverline DICE installed, and after our 40 hour trip to AMVIV, have a couple of questions.
- When in album scrolling mode (#4 iirc), the DICE stops after the album is done, and you need to select another album. How do I make it go to the next album automatically like on an iPod?
- When in the middle of an album, you turn the car off and then start it again (ie fuel stop), the DICE reverts into "song scrolling mode" (#1 iirc). This is great, this is the best mode IMO, but when you get to the end of the album, the DICE stops again. Except now, when you press 4 to get back to the album scrolling feature, it starts at the begining of the album list - pretty frustrating when you have 80+ albums on the iPod.
The same holds true when you press "1" to get the scrolling song information and reach the end of the album... Is there a way to make the DICE remember what album it was on when switching modes?

OK, that's fine, but the part that I find frustrating is that when you get to "STOPPED", and are currently on the "scrolling display" and hit 4 to select a new album, you have to start from the beginning of the album list every time. Am I doing this part wrong?
No, this is normal. It is assumed you would want to start from the beginning of any album you choose.
That's correct, and I do normally want to start from the beginning of the album. What I'm talking about is having to scroll through the whole list of albums (in my case 80+ albums) from the beginning of the list.

This is normal operation from the DICE.
Sure thing, send me a quick email with your request and I can reply with some instructions for radio removal.
thanks.
ok i KNOW i can do this easy enough, i'm pretty good (pats self on back). but, i have one question regarding the radio interface cable. it has 3 plugs on it.
the small one obviously goes to the dice box.
the other 2 LARGE ones are where i'm slightly confused - i haven't pulled the HU yet to look. one of the 2 plugs has 2 blue rectangular things and one white female receptacle in it. the other one is just 16 pins. which one goes where? ie- which one do i plug into the back of the HU and which one do i plug the cable that WAS in the head unit into? guessing i would say there is a cable in the back of the HU that plugs into the one dice plug with the white female plug, the the 16 pin plug snaps into the back of the HU.
or is it so simple that once i look it's plainly evident as to which goes where?

well, got it installed and it was a piece of cake. took like 20 minutes hardest part was routing the wires and getting them to fit behind the HU. works great so far though. just need to figure out how the palylists, shuffling, albums etc. work. i'm kinda geeky though so sure i'll figure it out quick. sounds WAYYYYY better than the OEM aux in i installed awhile back. WAY better.
i had a couple of questions for everyone else who did the radio interface install though: i routed mine to the glovebox and pulled the little rectangular blanking plate out to run the wire from the harness to the dice black box. i wanted to do that so i could have the black box in there for access in case i ever have an issue and need to check the box or mess with the dip switches, or the cable goes bad, etc. i have the glove box organizer so i don't mind the little box in there doesn't clutter it up at all- can hardly notice it in there.
everything looks nice and clean- invisible actually. you'd never know it is there. but, if anyone else has done it this way- is there a way to fill that little rectangular plug hole back up for a cleaner look, maybe something rubber? and also if you have the DICE box in the glove box, how did you mount it? couple self tapping screws? i was actually thinking of screwing the DICE box to the "ceiling" of the glove box- making it even more out of the way.
thanks. and nice product. i wish the cable from the box to the ipod was a little shorter though but, understand not everyone will have the ipod 6- 12" from the dice box. so a longer one included in the kit makes sense to cover most customers needs. is there a shorter one available?

easy enough when i confirm it works fine i will tuck.
next question is: dow to i get it to shuffle my entire library (i only use 1 playlist)? cd-1 and then i get confused. i can get it to work but only after fiddling with it. if i get in my car and just hit the random button it will not shuffle. however if i hit cd 2 on the HU and then go back to cd-1 and press random it works. there has to be a simpler method. the user manual seems a little confusing.

got it all figured out- even though i have only one playlist the ipod creates an on the go playlist (empty). i needed to go to CD 2 and select the correct playlist then CD1 then hit random. works fine now.
still on topic, my MINI is a 2003 and displays the text on the HU when i tune to a radio station. so if the HU can display text in that respect, i wonder how hard it would be to enable text for the DICE. isn't it possible to somehow upgrade the software/firmware on the older HU's? has anyone tried? i know i've upgrade the firmware for alot of my home electronics of course you would have to find or create a firmware upgrade.
just thoughts...

Sorry if this has already been answered, but is there a way to have HD Radio, Ipod and XM? I don't really need HD radio, but I thought I would ask. Thanks, the mini in question is a 2004 mcs with nav and the HK premium system.
Thanks
Thanks
Purchased my dice a month ago and it has been working flawlessly until this weekend. It just suddenly stopped working...
I disconnected battery, shorted them out, let it sit for 10 mins. reset ipod (nano 1.1), reconnected. but all i get is "ATTACHED" displayed on my head unit. Any recommendations?

Perform the following steps:
1. Disconnect iPod from cable
2. Remove battery cables, negative first
3. Touch battery cable terminals together (away from battery) for +5 seconds, a small spark is normal as this is stored power draining from the system.
4. Allow cables to remain disconnected for about 5-7 minutes
5. Reconnect battery cables onto battery, negative last.
6. Reboot iPod by pressing on MENU and CENTER buttons for +5 seconds and then reconnecting to the DICE cable after the reboot process is completed.
Let me know if these steps correct the problem
Followed your suggestion exactly. Pressing 6 shows software info incl. ipod.
Press 5, ipod is selected not AUX. Head unit display just shows ATTACHED. The display on the ipod does not change over to the DICE display, like it used to. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks
