Howard Stern On SIRIUS Satellite Radio

Now that Howard Stern has inked a deal with Sirius I've decided to go with Sirius Satellite Radio. I can't stand Opie and Anthony (XM) anyway. Would this news sway any others on this site? Also, Little Steven's Underground Garage is a featured channel on Sirius, another big plus for me. True Rock and Roll!

Have had XM for a for over a year now. This may be the thing to make me switch + the NPR channel.
Are they going to carry his show on a premium channel like XM does with O&A?

Just found my answer:

Stern's presence will definitely sway me toward Sirius over XM. However, I predict the companies will merge and we will have access to all of the programs available on satellite. For instance, a *** cable subscriber in Atlanta gets the same HBO and ESPN channels as a Comcast subscriber in Philly. Hopefully, satellite radio will have a similiar structure as they move forward.

I have XM and have been very pleased with it. However, I am not partial to either.

Did I not hear from somewhere that Sirius will deliver video at some point?

I will have to give Opie and Anthony a try. I think it is still currently free.

I'm not a Howard Stern fan, but I've pretty much decided on Sirius anyway. Main reason: I think Clear Channel has ruined radio in this country and Clear Channel is a major equity partner in XM. Also, Sirius has my alma mater's sports broadcasts and XM does not.

I agree with you that Clear Channel has ruined radio. I hate listening to the radio when it comes to music. I listen to a lot more talk radio now. I'd love to see Clear Channel go down. I'm picking up my Sirius radio this weekend.

Also, Clear Channel supports Bush and has actively gone out of their way to curb free speech and ruin artists careers (i.e. Dixie Chicks). Who needs those Fascists?

I have Sirius and am lovin' it. The music channels are 100% commercial free, the variety of non-music channels is very diverse. It also got picked up by my Dish Network satellite TV service. XM is also the brainchild of a man who developed the current radio ratings system that began on the late 70s, which ultimately caused the decline in radio programming as we knew it. That; along with Clear Channel's involvement almost guarantees a formulaic selection of music and information if not now then probably not too far in the future.

Howard Stern and NFL Sunday Drive. What could be better? I am now a (Sirius) Satellite Radio fan.

Lot's of great reasons to load up on Sirius, but if you want OEM and have a 2005 MINI, you are SOL for now. I wish MINIUSA would figure out the antenna thing, or the wiring harness thing, or whatever is causing the problems and ship out a Sirius kit.

 Howards drive time show will be included in the standard programming. 2 other channels will be offered from Howard at a premium.

 The FCC mandated that there will be at least 2 Sat radio compines. The FTC will never allow a merger. Think about the DirecTV/Echostar merger.

 Goto Best Buy or Circuit City and have them add a new (arrived this week) JVC Plug and play. At $150 + $80 for install it cant be beat. then get the Aux input for the mini. Best sound quality through the Aux input. Better display, more user control, and more features on the JVC than the Mini head unit. The red display also matches quite well.

Sirius ifrom my view:
NFL
Colledge sports
NHL
NBA
NPR
The BBC (it is an english car after all).
No Clear channel
Steven Van Zandt
EMENEM
The MTV VJs for the 80's ya knaw when MTV was good.
Webster Hall from New York City.
Should I go on?
If you have not Motored with Sirius you've just driven.

Sirius adapter for the Pioneer AVIC?

ninjamini, I just ordered the Pioneer AVIC, due to all the fun gadgets on the radio. I wanted Sirius, but it supports XM only, and I decided I wanted radio gadgets more than I wanted Sirius.

Will there be any way I can eventually get Sirius with the Pioneer AVIC unit? Some kind of universal adapter or something like that?

Sirius provides a far superior product

As is indicated by their corporate automotive partners. For the stock of my financial interest in the company (stock), I'm hoping that Stern helps it continue to rise. In the past month it's jumped about a buck and a quarter. With the new subscribers due to Stern's inking the contract, the cash flow should go up considerably, and start killing off the overall debt of the company, which as it stands now, is still much less than XM (I believe it's about -$230 mln vs. XM's -$580 mln).

So there's my take.

Aftermarket Sirius is easy to install

I've got my receiver sitting in the boot, and the wiring and Soundgate adapter (that plugs into the CD changer cable) mounted inside the body paneling. Extremely clean installation, and only took about an hour, tops. Much MUCH better than any of the current 'plug-and-play' systems, for aesthetic value as well as reception, since there is no need for a crappy FM transmitter.

Every Sirius system on the market has an Aux out. Get a Aux in from mini and you have the same sound quality.

Its features vs a cleaner look. the PnPs have far more features vs the soundgate adapter.

preview other channels
song seek
ability to take it into the house/ boombox
larger display
artist/title channel name/ ch. # all at ounce.
direct channel axxcess
30 presets
and so much more

VS.

cleaner look to not disrupt the lines of the dash

 Both give you the same end result---the best in Sat radio.

Its like alloy petina vs anthrocite. both are great and only 1 part of the equasion.
