Y-Cable extensions problem to secret compartment for iPod

I want to see if anyone else has had the same problem I am having. I added a USB and 1/8 audio extension to the y-cable and moved the iPod to the secret compartment. When the iPod is selected and the car is shut off when I go back to the car and start it again the iPod is not found and has to re-sync to the car before it is recognized in the radio (base) menu. This happens only if the iPod is on "shuffle all songs" but not if I am listening to a specific playlist or album. I don't get it?? Why?? this is very annoying it will sometimes take 5 or more minutes to re-sync to the car. I had originally bought a 30 pin extender and that would not recognize the iPod at all. I love this car but the audio/bluetooth is garbage.

Is the iPod battery dead?

P.S. How'd you move everything to the secret compartment? Any DIY on it? I'd love to do the same.

I find the iPod to be a bit flaky even without extensions. When I used extensions, it didn't make any difference to that. Which iPod do you have? Some models will go into a deep sleep after 14 hours without power, it can cause some flakyness.

I doubt that the extensions have anything to do with it. See if the behavior is any different when connected without extensions.

+1 on the flakiness of the cable even without extension.
Mine tends to not work right in the morning but when I come back to the car at night it works fine. WTH ? I am reluctant to spend the almost 100 dollars on another cable. I have the factory cable and the amazon cable too and they both are flaky. 2012 MCS

OK I tried to do a little test this weekend. And yes I agree the cable is flaky at best. If you turn the car off and wait a minute or two and re-start the car the iPod is still selected and recognized. This seems to last for around fifteen minutes and if you re-start after the fifteen minutes the iPod is not available in the radio menu until it is read/synced by the car. This takes around five minutes or more (large iPod). So then I disconnected the iPod and y-cable from the extension cables and hooked it up again in the normal configuration short y-cable only and iPod in the storage net. And it does the same thing? I could swear that it did not do this before I added the extensions when I only used the short y-cable. WTF, little things like this drive me crazy about this car!
