Displaying Fuel Consumption, Ave. Speed etc.
Hello All;
I'm a MINI newbie but consider myself tech savvy. For the life of me I can't figure out how to display my fuel l/100km, average speed etc. On my tach when I cycle through the options with the wiper button i see outside temp, odometer, trip, etc. but nothing else.
On my radio, I can set the preferences for metric (I live in Canada) but can't figure out how to bring up the display and read the info.
I have a R56 MC '12.
This is really driving me crazy as I've read, re-read the manual and searched the forums. Please help!
Thanks for your help in advance,
Mike

Thanks for the reply. As it turns out I'm not such a newbie. I swung by the dealership one day and asked one for the salesmen. He tried to figure it out and couldn't. He asked one of the senior guys and he was able to tell me that that "feature" isn't available on the Cooper Classic. How crazy is that? Seems that I have to wait for someone to hack the current code so that they can access it and reprogram the onboard computer. I can't believe that they would disable that on the classic. It really makes no sense to me. They advertise the excellent mileage of the car and then take away to opportunity to view the data. The silly thing is that you're able to set your preferences for the data, just not see it. I sent an email to MINI Canada but still haven't received a reply. If I ran my business like that I'd be looking for a new job in no time.
okay you mention "Classic".
What year is your car?
The reason I ask is that the old Mini's are referred to as "Classics" and the car made from 2002 to 2006 are 1st Gen and from 2007-current are 2nd Gen.
As far as i know there is no way to program a Classic for the info you want. As for 1st and 2nd Gen the info is available just not the way you are looking for it.
I doubt you will ever get anyone to produce program changes of that magnitude to get the information in the Tach display.
Tell me exactly what info you are looking for and I can tell you how to view it if it is available.
MINI/BMW is really bad about answering questions via e-mail or phone. I believe it is because their customer service people know absolutely nothing about the cars and have no training on them. But that is just my opinion.

The car is a brand new 2012 R56 base model Cooper. Up here the base model is referred to as a "Classic". The model that I bought is a special edition called a Knightsbridge. Basically, it's the base model with an added moon/sun roof, heated seats, and bluetooth connectivity. It works out to be less expensive than a MINI Cooper with the added options but you lose the ability to choose colour. The Knightsbridge edition comes only in Chili Red or Pepper White, both with black mirror caps and a black roof.
It's the most current model so I can't understand why one is not able to access the mileage data, especially when you're able to set the preferences in the OBC.
Any ideas? As I stated previously, my contact at the dealership told me that someone will eventually break the code for the OBC on this year's models and at that time he'll be able to hook me up at the dealership and program the OBC to display the data.
Any advice, possibility of this? I know you know a lot about this Schatzy from your post history on these forums.
As always, thank you in advance

What specific info are you looking for? (other than listed below)
In the Tach display lower section top line only the following are available.
1. Cruise Range (miles till empty)
2. Average Fuel Consumption (I.E. average miles per liter since last reset)
3. Current Fuel Consumption (I.E. instantaneous mile per liter)
4. Average Speed
The same are available on the Speedo/Radio Display.
And with out knowing "exactly" what info you are looking for I can not help you out any farther. If you can tell me what parameters you are looking for I can try and find out if any of them are actually read from the car or can calculated in the OBC.

A far as I know there is no way to disable it.
You mentioned the Wiper button to scroll thru the options and maybe you were meaning the Turn Signal Stalk on the left.
But it is the push button on the end of the stalk on the left side of the steering wheel that scrolls thru the options.
And I dont know of anyone else that has had this problem.
If it really does not show them then disconnect the battery for a minimum of 30 minutes to reset all the computers in the car.
If this does not fix the problem, then can you video the issue so that I can see exactly what you are seeing so that i can work on solving your issue.

Hi Schatzy;
I disconnected the battery for 30 minutes and it's still the same. I'll take a video this weekend to show you exactly what it does.
My SA at the dealership confirmed that the base model MINI's do not have this enabled.
Thanks for you time, it is appreciated.

My r56 mcs on a 2007 has the same problem and when I called the dealers they never had an answer either
I've also used the button at the end of the indicator stalk to no avail
I'm pretty car savey as I have run many car garages and was a mechanic for years before changing profession so I'm sure it's something wrong with the obd or for some reason mine just doesn't have it
The odd thing is it will show me fuel range left when I get less than 50 miles in the tank but I cant have it on display all the time or before it gets below 50
Any help is greatly welcome
