Navigation & Audio OEM navigation upgrade-Hopefully a how-to guide.
Navigation & AudioAudio upgrades, bluetooth, and navigation discussions surrounding the Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S (R56), and Cabrio (R57) MINIs.
So looking on RealOem.com the part number for my car with and without Nav. are the same for the HU and display. Wondering what it should cost to buy the code and have the dealer try it.

my old Radio did not have a most Connection. Shall there just be a most cable between the Radio and combox or do i have to connect it somewhere else, too?
Many thanks in advance..
The Most cable does a loop from combox to radio to plug-in/coding connector back to combox. Make sure you you connect them in series's and to check this just power up the combox and radio and you will see the red light’s come on both units.
Many thanks.
Got it working so far, except the telephone baseplate and usb port next to the aux is not connected yet.
Can someone please tell me how to connect the phone baseplate to combox?
Many thanks.

Did not bother with the phone face plate as you have to buy adapters for different phone, my car already had aux/USB by the cup holder so I just utilized those and kept my armrest as storage

you had to buy a cable to connect the usb port by the cupholder to the combox, and the wires form the aux port were moved from the radio harness and ran down to the combox correct? I started this a year ago and never finished up the combox install. Just refreshing my memory because I'm going to finish it here soon.

Hello, i would like to check if my R56 LCI is allready equipped with a Combox.
I'm planning to do the Visual Boost Retrofit.
My R56 got the Boost CD Device right now, with USB / Aux Connector, Bluetooth Handsfree and Snap In Phone Connector in the Armrest. The car also has Harman + Kardon System.
Where is the location of the Combox in my car? Just to find out if there is allready the needed Media Combox.
Perhaps anybody here know's where to find it?

Combox is located under driver seat, inside of a black plastic enclosure.
HANDS FREE BT uses MULF2 instead of Combox to menage usb e bt functions. Unfortunately for you, LCI models have a differend kind of Boost CD with integrated combox. But if you have an armrest with snap-in maybe you could find an USB HUB under your seat, so you will spend less money in wirings

Thank you sandroatg! I will take a look and hope the best to find that HUB

what year is the mini ? If you only had the boost CD you won’t have a com box under the seat unfortunately as your set up was the same as mine prior to doing the sat/nav retrofit
Same production year as mine, i’am guessing your radio is this one, in which case you will need a combox, nav radio and new speedo with screen screen. Boost radio, Bluetooth and Sirius
Awesome posts above... I've read through it... and would like to get a simple list from those that have installed the Speedometer-Replacement-Stereos in their cars of the general PRO/Con of the install.
Are any of the factory mini functions or modules that are compromised in the installation of this unit?

For me there was no compromise I got the OEM look I wanted it works great and I have had no issues with it, I did buy the BMW FSC activation codes so I didn’t have to add an emulator which got a little expensive.
@Davers You are absolutely right. It's like mine.
I am doing to fit the Visual Boost only. At the Moment i am collecting some wires and a suitable combox. For Mini it should be Part Number 84109248178
I allready have the Console, Visual Boost Radio, CIC Unit and Controller. A friend of mine will give a try with Icom Coding at the right time.
Do you know about other Combox Versions of BMW 1 for example? They have different part numbers but if suitable, it is more easy and less expensive to find one, doing the bluetooth connection in my R56.
I'm pretty sure that visual boost doesn't require combox.
In any case, there are a lot of different combox: you need combox Media BN2000.
Combox Bn2010 works with canbus2 and it isn't suitable on Mini R56. The same is Combox Telematic Bn2000: it can work nit with some mods on the wiring.
If you are sure that you need a combox, search for Media BN2000
Ok, so i will have to wait and do some small tests inside the car with devices connected to check up if combox is needed or not. Perhaps i will do a small test at my desk at home before. But i will have to wait for delivery of some plugs to do the wiring first.
Or is there any way to examine if a combox is needed or not, before trying to pair my cellphone over bluetooth in the car?
Thank you for Combox Model Name sandroatg ! If i will finally get myself confirmed, i will need that unit, it is more easy to identify suitable units with that information.
You can easely chek. On the bottom side of the champ there are some plugs. If next to the blue (gps) one there's a similar beige plug (Bluetooth), you don't need a Combox.
Sorry, you are wright about gps.
The big beige connector is for USB.
The small one is for Bluetooth. So you don't need a Combox.
You will have all Bluetooth functions exept for streaming audio, that requires combox
Great news! I do not need Bluetooth Streaming for my first start. Perhaps i will decide to do that with a second step.
Thank you very much for your help! There is heavy knowledge gathered here.
Another question. Do i need a Can Filter? As far i know it is only needed for Navigational Sytem. In my case with Visual Boost, there is no Nav functionality.
Is a Can Filter needed anyway?
No, you don't need. Except if your Visual Boost has voice control and/or Mini Connected.
But it's extremely rare for V. Boost models.
You can check the VIN of the donor car on MDECODER serarching for all the optionals. If you don't find (or if you don't care about) these functions, emulator is useless
@Trompyt
Just a litte suggestion to your great schematic graphic.
Can Low and Can high seems reversed at one point.
In the Pinout Table it is assoiciated correctly.
But this schematic is very helpfull to me. Thank you very much!
