i need to replace my door speakers( 2003 mcs ) it has the Harmon Kardon system in it .. what kind of after market speakers will work great with this system ?
and what size are they , is the door panel easy to get off ? or should i just take it to best buy and have them do it "?

First, stay away from best buy for installs unless you want your system trashed. They generally hire teens.

Obviously the best speakers to get would be HK speakers. However, any 2 Ohm speaker at the same size should work.

Here is a guide to get into the door.

Why do you need to replace your door speakers? If it's because they occasionally buzz/pop, your issue may not be the speakers but the HK amp. They are a known failure item.

Adding to that, you might want to find a shallow install speaker. I have heard that Polk makes a nice 2 Ohm speaker that can replace the HK ones.

Just curious, but what makes you think the speakers are gone? Generally the amp dies rather than the speakers.

The HK system is digitally controlled and shouldn't get loud enough to blow the speakers. The symptoms you are describing is likely the amp that is toast. Not a cheap fix either.

I just replaced my entire system. I was unable to find anyone who makes speakers that will work with the h/k system. I ended up getting a new head unit, amp, 6x9's, and new 6 1/2's in the front. I did the install myself and it was not something I would recommend unless you are good with car audio. my install took me 10 hours. I rewired everything and dynamatted the interior. I would stay away from any big box store they will just f*** up your system. I still have the h/k speakers and amp if you are looking for replacements. pm me if interested.

Exactly what I did. May I ask how you went into the door? I drilled through four holes through the space provided for the heated mirrors harness (which I don't have). I didn't like the small gauge of the stock wiring, even though it was probably more than capable of handle whatever I could throw at it.

I have one HK front speaker if anybody's interested.

I actually just ran the wire under the rubber lip that is near the top of the door. I tried to get it through the rubber loom that runs from the body into the door but there was almost no room. If I get a chance this weekend I'll post a pic.

In case anybody in this thread is looking to equip their system with new wire.

What it looks like from the outside.

What it looks like on the inside.

And here's mine where I drilled out the empty spots to run wire.
