AM Radio Stations

I have an 04 R53 and I am unable to manually adjust the AM radio stations. For example, I live in Orange County, CA so when I want to listen to ESPN radio 710, the only way I can do so is through channel 711 where the reception isn't as good. I can't seem to figure out how to manually tune it to 710. Is this normal? Am I missing something here?

Two things...one...if you have a non-oem shorty antenna, your reception may be signafigantly worse on the am dial....the shorter antenna does not affect fm.
Next, what tuning mode do you have you radio set for? Sounds like you may need to shift it from auto to manual.
If I remember right, push the "m" for moment, this will toggle the mode from scan, to manual. Then tune away with the up/down buttons!!

I tried pushing the "m" button and it did go from scan to manual, but its still on scan on the AM side as opposed to manual. However, when I do this on the FM side it works like a charm. It might be the antenna like u mentioned. I'll have to check it out and see which antenna I have. Btw, where would I get a good antenna? Dealership? Or can i just pick one up at the local O Reillys or something? What would you recommend?

I think your stereo is set up for Europe operation instead of USA!

In USA, AM stations are 10KHz apart - hence 710 / 730 / etc.
In Europe they are 9KHz apart ... 711 is a multiple of 9, not 10.

On FM, USA stations are on off frequencies (103.3 / 103.5) while in Europe they use all frequencies (103.3 / 103.4 / 103.5).
I'll bet on FM manual tuning, you can get 0.1 steps instead of 0.2 steps.

Re-configuring the stereo is possible but complex; I don't remember the exact button sequence needed, it's some sort of press-button-for-long-time-at-switch-on ...

Yes you are exactly correct. So there's a way to change it back to USA? Anyone have a link that has a tutorial on how to do this?
