Street Names while not during Guidance?

I just recently traded in a 2006 MCS with Nav for my spankin' new 2009 MCS, also with Nav. While I really appreciate the updates in the system, there seems to be (at least) one feature missing that I really liked about the old system. Perhaps someone knows of a way to enable it in the '09?

In the '06 Nav, it would display the name of the street that you were currently driving on at all times - even when not being guided to a destination. That was really handy. The '09 Nav seems to only show the position on the map, but not the street name.

Anyone else miss this feature or know of a way to enable it?

TIA!

Map direction of travel and map facing north show street names. Perspective does not. There is no way to align the names to the streets or change the level of detail at a particular zoom level.

gadgeTT, I think you must mean split screen mode in the 1st gen Nav. The 2nd gen Nav only allows split screen during guidance.

The "current position" display - the one that shows latitude, longitude, altitude, and a big arrow pointing North - displays the name of the street you are currently on. No map on that display, though.

Yes- I guess I'm referring to the "split screen" mode of the 1st gen. I tried the "current position" mode of the '09 Nav and it seems to show lat and long but no street names. Oh well, guess I should enjoy the new stuff and not fret over the missing stuff.

Hmm, dunno. Here's a shot of mine with a street name highlighted at the bottom.

That's exactly the same in mine as well.

Yup - finally saw the street name while in the "current position" screen, so I guess I'll just have to switch to that view whenever I have doubts as to what street I'm on. I usually leave it on the "map direction of travel" view. BTW, while not the fastest way to get around the built-in computer system, the voice reco does work and is very easy

I played with the voice recognition for the first time this weekend on a short trip. It does work a treat, if you know what to say and when.

Tip: don't say "preset 4" thinking you're going to change radio stations if the trip computer is displaying - it logically determined that I'd said "reset" and reset my trip in the middle of it!

Best to say "Options" if in doubt. My favorite commands are "Satellite Radio Preset x", "Car Data", and "Map Direction of Travel" as well as all of the cool voice dialing from my phone's contact list. I would like to be able to direct the Nav to take me home, but I think the best I can do is "Address Book" and then select the "Home" entry manually, then "start".
