Home made XM mount
I had purchased the Kuda mount for the Mini for my XM Roady XT satellite radio. After living with it for a few weeks I didn't like it. It was too big and bulky plus the wires hanging down was not a look I liked. I decided to make my own mount. Being the RoadyXT is pretty small, I thought I would be able to use some 3M double sided tape mounts used for pictures, etc.
I went down to the local craft store and bought a bag of balsa wood. It has various strips and blocks of balsa wood in it.
I wanted to mount this on the passenger side of the dash, closest to the speedo. The first picture below is a diagram of the shape of the block with measurements. You may have to make yours larger, depending on the size of your radio mounting bracket.

Once you cut out your block, you may want to use a small flat file to file a groove in the middle of the back of the block about 3/4" wide. This will help fit the contour of the dash.
I then covered the block with some black vinyl. I wrapped and glued (some 3M spray adhesive works well) the vinyl around the the block and let it all set up over night with some rubber bands wrapped around the block. Once it was set up, I cut away all the vinyl from the back of the block so all I had was wood. Then using the double sided tape pieces from 3M I put several strips on the back of the block. Make sure to observe which side of the tape goes to the wood and which side goes to the "wall" (or in this case, the dash). Also, cut the tabs off the strips that are used to remove the tape at some point.

Once you have the tape on it, it can then be stuck to the dash. If its cold out, make sure you warm the surface of the dash with a hair dryer, it will stick better. Test position it where you want it, take off the backing on the tape and stick it on. Apply heavy pressure for at least 30 seconds. Let it sit 24 hours before mounting the radio. My radio bracket just sticks on with double side tape that comes with it. Below are the pictures of the block as well as mounted in the car. Much smaller and more elegant than the giant Kuda mount.

In this photo you see the cradle hanging down by the wires. I mounted a 12V receptacle in the glove box for power and the audio, antenna and power wires come out of there and connect to the cradle, so barely any wires show underneath the cradle. Much cleaner install than the Kuda mount.
