Hi guys... first post here. Just got a 2013 Countryman S All 4 and loving it so far. Was really missing the Homelink function from our other cars, and it looked like doing a full mirror retrofit was going to be a pain based on threads here and elsewhere.
So, after some research, I ended up picking up one of http://www.ebay.com/itm/Homelink-Universal-Transmitter-ROLLING-CODES-Custom-Remote-Garage-Door-Opener-/171783042989?hash=item27ff1137ad&vxp=mtr I have no idea what car it's from, but it was made in '99.
I took advantage of the mostly useless "storage" compartment behind the cupholders and this is the finished product:
It's currently powered by tapping into the wires for the conveniently nearby cigarette lighter plug, so you do have to have the ignition on to operate. Not that big of a deal for me since mostly only use the buttons in the car arriving coming home.
It was easy (took about an hour once I figured out how to get all the trim off), looks stock, but even so it's out of sight. It's also easy to undo. Replacing that whole piece to return to stock is $12.
nice, i wish those older homelink devices worked on my opener but i have a newer one and have yet to find an oem one that will work with the newer openers. i had nothing but issues with the converter they sell.
