A few audio/iPod questions

I just discovered that the USB port will allow for USB drives, and I'm pretty happy to hear that. Is this for the nav system only, or will this work with all models with the USB port?

How quick/easy is navigating through files/folders/playlists on an iPod and/or USB drive?

I have an iPod Touch. Has anyone mounted an iPod Touch or iPhone and just used the iPod interface with the AUX jack? I'm thinking the iPod interface might be easier to use, especially without the nav system.

Thanks!

Try Google Site search. It's better at pinpointing info than the message board search.

http://www.google.com/advanced_search?hl=en

Just be sure to enter northamericanmotoring.com/forums in the Search within a site or domain: field before searching.

It works without the Nav, with just the iPod/Bluetooth option (like Shawn has).

Its a little awkward, you've only got 2 lines on the standard radio, it takes a while on long lists.

I've been using a touch with Shawn, no problems. I don't see why it wouldn't work with just the Aux jack, though its better if you have something that does Aux out, rather than just the headphone. My favorite is the Griffin Autopilot, it does power and has a few control buttons as well.
I'm thinking the iPod interface might be easier to use, especially without the nav system.
I use the Autopilot in Tristan instead of the old iPod interface because the interface can be annoying.

Thanks for your help. I'm thinking I may forgo the iPod stuff and just use the aux-in jack and use the iPod's interface to navigate and stuff.

I wouldn't have bothered with the iPod adapter with Shawn if it weren't for the BlueTooth option. The BlueTooth option is great and worth the price of the option all on its own. The iPod bit came for free.

I liked the first version of the adapter that Quentin had, even though it had very few features. The 07 one in Tristan was big disappointment, so I wasn't going to bother with it for Shawn.

I just got one of these and I'm pretty pleased so far. I can leave the iPod in the glove box, it charges, and I can reach the controls on the cig adapter just fine.

I realized that I absolutely hate talking on the phone while driving, and while having that option would be nice, it's probably money that could be better spent elsewhere, in my case.

Thanks!

Will work great if you control the iPod from it's own screen but will not allow control of iPod remotely via the radio controls.

You must have the Mini supplied cable to control the iPod from the radio controls.

the volume control on the radio controls the ipod volume, other features just use the ipod controls. it sits in the depression beneath the parking brake and doesn't get in the way at all.

I have the USB/Aux with the Mini supplied cable that was included and it works great. I have my black iPod tucked away in the little space below the jacks and you can't even tell it's there. I love having access to my entire music collection through the headunit. The head unit allows you to select by genre, artist, song, album and also gives you the ability to shuffle. It is also nice being able to see the song titles diaplayed.

The bluetooth also works great if you have a compatiable phone. The Motorola Razr works great. If you make a call or receive a call, the system pauses your iPod or CD and allows you to complete your conversation. Once you hang up it goes back the music where you left off prior to the call. I just ordered the snap in adaptor yesterday from Classic Mini (who gives a NAM discount.) so that the phone can charge and utilize the antenna for stronger reception. California just implemented a hands free cell phone law so having the bluetooth was a must.

If you plan on upgrading the phone i would wait. There will probably be some changes in exactly how the phone fits.

Ifnot upgrading the phone call Classic Mini in Ohio, They also have a listing on NAM. They give NAM members a 20% discount.

Thanks for the input, all.

I'm thinking it might just be worth it to just use the aux jack and get a mount for the iPod Touch and just use the iPod's interface. It's really nice and snappy, and I'm thinking I'd rather use that than the HU to navigate. When I test drive, I'll try it out, but I'm thinking of just saving the money (or maybe going with a relatively base JCW).

I'm configuring an 09 JCW. The Premium package includes the MFSW. When I select the Convenience package, it asks me if I want to upgrade to the Comfort Bluetooth package for $500, and that it includes the MFSW and armrest. Since the MFSW is already in the Premium package, I can add the armrest for $250 separately.

So, what's in the Comfort Bluetooth package that's not in the normal one?
