SIRIUS question

Please excuse me if I am asking something already answered elsewhere.

The clubman's head unit mfg is Alpine right? If so, should any alpine sirius control module work in the clubman? Like this one? http://shop.sirius.com/edealinv/serv...dParentID=7870

No. The head unit may be made by Alpine, but the interface to the car is bespoke, other Alpine components won't work with it.

so we would have to purchase the unit from the dealer? Where did you find this information? All in all, it's still cheaper than the $1000 factory installed price.

The 1K factory install includes a lifetime subscription which is worth about $500. If you buy the unit from the dealer after delivery, you only get a small courtesy subscription (I think it might be 3 months) AND you have to pay to get an ECU upgrade so the headunit recognizes the Sirius. Plus, you will have to do the install yourself and buy the adapter off of Ebay to connect to the existing Sirius antenna. If you've already decided you want Sirius, it is a much better deal to configure it from the factory. Your other viable option is to mount an aftermarket Sirius, such as the Sportster 5 with a Kuda mount and attach it through the Aux input. If you don't mind the lack of integration, the Sportsters have much better interfaces than the MINI unit if you don't have the NAV.

BTW, if you are talking about a clubman, this should be posted in the 2'nd generation MINI forum.

Moved to 2nd Gen Nav & Audio, as the Clubman is a 2nd Gen MINI (originally posted in 1st Gen Nav & Audio).

Poyzin,

As I already have a Sirius subscription for my wife and I, it will be cheaper than the factory option.

A one-year Sirius subscription is included with the OEM Sirius setup available at dealers. I had one installed in November.

When I ordered, the only option from the factory at that time was $1000 for radio plus lifetime subscription. I thought that was a little high, especially since I don't need the subscription.

When I ordered, there was no factory option. I would have jumped on that to save the cost of the unit and $300 in installation costs. I saved about $200 over the factory deal, but still have to pay for service.
