iPod or SIRIUS - or both?

I just finished installing the Mini iPod adapter to my HK head unit. Sirius was installed when I bought the car new, and it also had the 6-disc changer - which I removed as part of the installation of the iPod adapter, since the directions that came with my unit said the two would not work together.

Installation went well for a novice at these kinds of things, including changing some wires from one connector to another as specified. I wrapped everything up in about an hour and a half with a great feeling of satisfaction that I'd (1)followed the instructions to a T, (2)hadn't broken anything in the process, (3)saved myself some money, and (4)would have a cool addition to my audio system.

So, I was surprised and disappointed when I powered up the system and connected my iPod (it worked fine), that I have no sound when I switch to Sirius. The channels display, the information is there - just no sound. What gives?

I can't be the only person to have Sirius and an iPod adapter. What did I do wrong??

Thanks

THe factory ipod and Sirius both use the same inputs on the radio, when you installed the ipod you disconnected the white input plug cable from the cd changer/sirius to install the white connector that came with the ipod interface.

That white plug must be part of the output from the head unit, since I still get Sirius as an input option when I cycle the Mode button (tuner, cd, iPod/6-disc, Sirius) but no sound from the speakers.

I've read that iPod and Sirius are mutually exclusive since they use the same input to the head unit. But that doesn't seem to hold true since I get both displays on the radio's screen. I'd think there'd be a way to incorporate the wires that count from the plug into the new plug so they would all be happy together.

Maybe not.

Did You Resolve?

Interested in this I've had Sirrius for a while, but external unit. I also have ipod, but hate to deal with all the wires and sharing the One power source/cig lighter on the MINI. I WANT OEM SIRRIUS! Please make it work so I can do the same

For me, it was the iPod. Hey, I own the music, and can burn it to discs and such. I creat my own "radio stations" with playlists, and still have the ability to listen to what I want to, when I want to!

just buy a stiletto 100. you'll have your sirius, and the capabilities of a small ipod. plus you can record songs off the radio and listen to whenever you want. You can also listen to live sirius outside your car just walking around, or indoors via wireless internet. I love mine.

This is easy!

Forget about the iPOD interface. It's crap anyway.

Install the auxilliary audio input near the downtubes (in my case, I put in inside the left one), and get a Belkin iPOD holder for the useless left cupholder. Volume is adjustable via MFSW, but rest is done directly on iPOD, but that's okay, because it's at your fingertips anyhow, and you can see what's playing, unlike with the factory iPOD interface (hence the "crappy").

Attached to my 6-CD changer wire, I have a Blitzsafe box and XM adapter, so I have XM on my headunit.

I also have NAV, so I live in harmony with NAV, XM and my iPOD. This is the very best solution for the MINI in my opinion.

I have a Harmon Kardon Drive + Play iPod interface. The D+P has an AUX input which my Sirius Sportster 5 it wired into. The combination of these two works well and the Sirius unit can be selected through the Drive + Play's menu. I works great if you want both. Theres also a Drive + Play II with bluetooth capabilities if you really wanna go all out, but i have a seperate unit for that. The Drive + Play is a great item. At least check it out if youre trying to integrate both.

I just ordered a new S and went with the Ipod plug in - $1k for Sirius radio is absurd. When I have my wife's Element I plug my laptop into the Ipod plug and tune into Sirius online with aircard in laptop. Does the Stiletto just plug in as easy and does it need an antenna? I do not want to put an antenna on the roof like I'd have to do with my home unit like this one -

Thanks,

to solve your problem as I have been down this road already.....

The ipod uses the sirus white plug port on the backof the radio. Hence why you have no sound.

Here is the fix....

EAS sells the DICE. you want the trunk version. It uses a cable that plugs into the sirius unit in the back. I have this set up and it works very well. Directions are kinda skimpy on the install but I figured it out.

Anything you plug in in front of the sirius unit will knock out the sirius sound.
