I signed up too. I will be doing a run before Saturday Feb 7 to ensure they have the technique down for our automatics. Then another set of runs the 7th to see if I improve with some other mods I have in mind.

Bill told me they will give us files or printouts from the dyno. I suspect most folks will want a file emailed to them for their 3 runs or best run of the day.

I will get more details on what files are available. Bill appears very interested in finding out about the various tuning options available for the MINI.

We did discuss Jan of RMW, but that would have to be a different venue since that is advanced tuning and much more costly (bigger $$$). Perhaps a few of the R53 folks will want to get something set up with Jan (RMW) and MAC if this turns out well.

I will alert Jan to our thread over here in MINI5280, who in the Gen1 MINIs would like to be a contact point for Jan?

Jorge,

I will be sure to set a time slot for you for the morning, so you can do your meet, it will depend on who signs up (kinda first on the list goes first).

We will be flexible and open to change, but I want to have a list of cars and the order they will be dyno'd and the time on the dyno before we all get to MAC.

But since your first after Chuck, I will think it is not a problem. First car will be on the dyno by 9:30am per Bill.

Progressing well - MINI5280 Dyno Day

Please sign up on the calendar for this event, if you have not done so.

This is progressing well, current NAM sign up shows 9 people with one of those not going to dyno, but will observe and photograph.

I have three MINI owners who are not NAM active currently interested, so the my list shows 11 folks wanting the dyno time.

I'm sure this will change as peoples schedules change, we will remain flexible.

Since this goes all day, do we want to provide some lunch at MAC?

I'm thinking buffet table, something simple and manageable.

I'm sure we will have coffee and donuts for the start-up!

I am keeping an excel worksheet on my home computer so I have information for everyone. This will only be shared with me and Chuck. An edited version without private information will be available at the dyno day, so folks can compare HP and Torque among the MINIs.

Would the folks who have currently signed up send me a PM with some basic information unless we have already talked.

NAME (First, Last) , NAM name: MINI Model & year, MODs (if any), contact phone number (cell, home or office), so if we need to call, we can, if something critical changes and your email address, so we can mail you the dyno pull files so you have them for your usage.

Sorry I don't know all this by association with your NAM name, but alas, I do not.

Information is best sent to me using NAM PM or the NAM email function, if you desire.

NAM Email will go to my primary email which I read throughout the day, I will respond as needed.

Don

Sunday bump

I hope Saturday the 7th is clear and dry, cold is ok, probably better.

We have 5 inches of new on the backyard (north) deck, I thought this was supposed to be a 2 inch dusting.

What is a Dyno? Well from Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynomometer):
A dynamometer or "dyno" for short, is a machine used to measure torque and rotational speed (rpm) from which power produced by an engine, motor or other rotating prime mover can be calculated.
A dynamometer can also be used to determine the torque and power required to operate a driven machine such as a pump. In that case, a motoring or driving dynamometer is used. A dynamometer that is designed to be driven is called an absorption or passive Dynamometer. A dynamometer that can either drive or absorb is called a universal or active dynamometer.
In addition to being used to determine the torque or power characteristics of a machine under test (MUT), Dynamometers are employed in a number of other roles. In standard emissions testing cycles such as those defined by the US Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA), dynamometers are used to provide simulated road loading of either the engine (using an engine dynamometer) or full powertrain (using a chassis dynamometer). In fact, beyond simple power and torque measurements, dynamometers can be used as part of a testbed for a variety of engine development activities such as the calibration of engine management controllers, detailed investigations into combustion behavior and tribology.

Treadmill for MINIs

So, it's like taking running on the treadmill while you're hooked up to a heart rate monitor, an oxygen monitor in your mouth (nose pinched shut) and maybe a few other wires connected to various parts of your body, right? You go home with your results plotted on graph paper. Sounds fun. Sign me (er, my MINI) up! I've already RSVP'd with Don and on the MINI5280 calendar.

One is a spectator, two or more are spectators that spectate together. Of course the MINI on the dyno will be spectated and/or undergo spectation.
The more spectators the better!

Perhaps we can ask Don if he can put together a list of people and the times they have signed-up for.

So, that's the "what," now can you define the "why?" I'm not sure why I'd want to do this (other than the obvious, all the cool kids are doing it.) lol

Because it will show you how much horsepower (hp) bean can put out. This is especially handy when you plan to do mods that add hp. Establish a baseline then do your mods and see what you gained vs what was advertised. Then get pissed.
