Help with locked trunk and no battery

Kind of an embarrasing question. We have a 2002 MCS which does not have the emergency pull cable for the rear hatch. We had a leak and the battery flooded, and I had to remove the battery. And closed the rear hatch. Now I can’t get the hatch open. I’ve tried connecting a battery to the front “+” terminal and ground, but no joy. I may have not had a good ground, but I used several points in the engine bay and on the block and non made a diffrerence.

Is there a double top-secret way to get that hatch open?

fold the rear seats down and install new battery. If that doesn’t work then you have bigger problems like a blown fuse.

That’s part of the problem. The fancy positive connector was damaged in the water and came apart. I’ll try with just the existing leads, but I’m not sure what is disabled. Is there a main fuse in the positive cable?

Well, that answers that question. Is there a lever on the hatch itself, like on some wagons? Or do I have to resort to explosives to get into the back of the car?

I’ve hooked up power to the positive post in the engine bay but can’t get any electrical activated. I suspect it’s because I had to remove the rusty cable with the B+ fuse module. I don’t want to buy a new one, since this car just lunched it’s motor and may be headed towards a new career as a parts car. But I would like to get the rear hatch open.

If I hook a battery up directly to the positive and ground connections in the trunk, will the electrical work without the fuse in the stock cable?

Only thing i can think of is to get into the trunk and try to get under that panel where the lock is. The lock has a little nylon white curved section and that is where the cable connects to , if its there. If you move that it unlock the trunk lock manually.
