I'm slacking I know, I'd scare you with how much road salt is on Pearl I've seen cleaner cars come out of the sandtraps. Can we spring forward so I get out by sunset?

"sundog"? Nonetheless, beautiful photo blockh102.
I was incorrect, it's a sun pillar.

speednut: that's my MO. More effective if it works!

Dave: about time you posted! What's with the funny looking firewood?

I think they just try to pawn that off on the locals here as firewood since so few people have actually been out of the city, they wouldn't know any better anyway.

Dave, like the vast openness of the first shot and it's lack of clutter. Is that the hourly SWA cattle wagon below the moon?

Kurt, thanks for the link on the sun pillar. That's a good "learned something new today" lesson for me. Not sure if I've ever seen it before either since it seems you've got to be hanging out in the colder climates.

Ms. Speednut hollered at me this AM while I was incapacitated in the "smallest room" of the house (if you know what I mean; AKA my "study") to inform me of a vibrant sunrise and told me to take a photo. I reminded her of my current location/condition and told her to do it herself. After some serious rotation & cropping , below is what she came up with. A nice change of pace from the typically boring coastal CA skies that frequent here (as seen in Dave's recent photos). Now if I could just find some uncluttered environments like Dave has...

That's one of my favorite locations. It's actually the same place I shot the photo with the bicycles that wound up on the NAM calendar and a couple other shots.

The cool discovery for me this last time though was that they had added an entire new parking lot (where I wound up taking the photos above). The new lot has some character to it that the older spots didn't, so expect to see more shots from that location in the near future.

It sure is.

That is cool. I never would have guessed that for a coastal sunrise.

It's not a simple task around here. There's about 80 miles of city starting directly to the right side of that frame.

Dave, nice to reciprocate the lessons learned. I got that from another Flickr member in New Mexico.

Okay, let's all grunt together!

I'm confused, you want me to try cluttered urban backgrounds... but now you like uncluttered. Arg! :impatient

BTW: good for this the Mrs., beautiful sunrise. But if she was really dedicated, she woulda posed the MINI in the shot somehow!

I know its OT but I like those wheels

I like the backgrounds, both place the car in SoCal instantly, the first one is a tad less distracting, but I like both

Finally some action!

We had a chance of rain/snow. Got just enough sleet to mess up the clean car. Check my new tires! *ooooh*

This is a new location, but I just couldn't make myself find a more urban background (sorry speednut). Note the concrete curb and powerline wires.

That last one is really nice

I'd mask the MINI & burn the foreground from the bottom edge in...
...but that's just me!

Hey! That's a cool angle. Is that just the Twilight Bridge sky?

Must have been taken at sunrise, not sunset... there's dew on the bonnet.

Nice use of light and reflection on the headlamps and grille, respectively.

The few ends of tree branches poking out at the edge of the bonnet, was that intentional ?

Ahhhhhhh... I see. Sure looks like dew on there. I would have bet money that was taken at sunrise. Seeing as you say you're lazy, not likely you'd be out taking pics at sunrise though.

Regardless, interesting photo... thanks for posting !

I am not convinced about HDR. Some pictures on Flickr look too fake. Sure the car shows up better, but it don't look good... you know?

From all the reading and viewing I did online and my little bit of expirimenting it seems to go two ways, one it look quite surreal and artsy; the other that I appreciate more is a well balanced multi exposure photo. so one image of the car, one of the sky and use an HDR-like process to blend them into a seemless high detail image. Which I think has huge potential for sunsets when done right.

Nicely done high detail

OR over done and fugly

When it maximizes the image then I like it, when its a over saturated halo-fest video game look I'm not a fan.

I played with this, blurred the dirt and background, used the "enhance" feature, plus hue and satruation were changed.

Sorry, been a crazy few days here, just caught this now, I like how much easier it is to see the whole car, where as before much was lost to the shadows.
