Yup, got some from the back of the house too that came out pretty good.
However, the wife frowns upon me driving the mini through the house into the back yard just so I post some photos here.
Dared to take my daughter out for her first how-to-drive-a-stickshift driving lesson.:impatient :impatient :impatient Found a rural dirt street with no traffic.
I do so hate auto-focus!!!!!!!
Funny how dorks hanging out of cars don't scare them.
Kurt, is that open door a sign of what I have to look forward to when I teach my, now, seventeen-year-old daughter how to drive my MINI?

Yes. Be sure you're not buckled up, right hand on the door release handle... don't eat for a few hours before hand... except for one beer. Having her friend in back, hurling "stoopid" comments helped. Why couldn't she understand SLOW let-out of the clutch?? I impressed myself with ever so slowly engaging the clutch, and not using the gas; good to know for Slow Drags. But after restarting for the 200th time, I said one hour is enough!!!!
Oh yea, back to the sunset... I did not try to copy SBs picture! Really. The road vs. parking lot debate shall begin....
Here a few more sunsets, missed the lighting I wanted by about 20 sec. if I I need not park the car to get out and I would've had it. Kurt I love seeing the rays in your last set. As always pointers welcome.
Please ignore the lens dust on this last one.
Waxing the MINI (and pushing the limit of "not in direct sunlight")
And my Tuls inspired new hood (photo taken just before sunset):
Motor on: how clean was your lens for the last shot? I'm trying to develop the habit to look at the lens before going out for against sun shots. Is the last shot two pictures morphed together?

Well I made the mistake of allowing someone (supposed authorized to do the work) clean my camera and they got tons of little specs of dust all over my CCD so I'm constantly shooting 1 full stop under exposed to less the effect, lots of heal tool, its an absolute mess and I need to work up the confidence to do the open heart surgery and get it back to spotless. the last shot is two photos four layers, not the best angle and I should really give it aother go since getting my ALTA I have much more silver under the hood. But I also kinda like how its sutble and the casual glance it gets passed over but the detail is where the work is.
Motor on, had to go back and look at your "under the hood" photo. Very subtle, but very nicely done!
I've had very good luck with Visible Dust sensor brushes to clean my CCDs. Also had the same experience as yours; straight back from factory service center with more gunk on the sensor than before. The visible dust brushes took care of it in short order. (visibledust.com)
FWIW, use the smallest aperture possible (high f stop number) to get the rays in your photo. It's a neat effect.
And it's flat as far as the eye can see here. It's almost impossible to get any kind of good view that's not obstructed by something. We get some great colorful skies, but very few that arrange themselves in a photogenic manner. :-)
I discovered a spot that was relatively uncluttered when out on a club drive a couple of weeks ago. I went back tonight to witness what turned out to be a fairly mediocre sunset. I drove about 30 minutes to get there, so I decided to try to make the most of it.

Nothing real fancy, but these were a couple I like.
