Mini Meet w/ The Tire Rack, South Bend
Discussed with Alex at The Tire Rack about putting together a meet for Mini owners at their facility in South Bend, Indiana. Would you be interested??? TTR has a great facility including a test track. How about a laid-back moto-cross event, are you interested in trying your Mini on a banked track? I am willing to get it organized if there is interest. We are checking on availability to get it in yet this fall. Could do a road cruise as well... could work in visit to other area attractions... and food!!! Let me know if their is interest. Motor on!
The Chicago MINI Motoring Club may be interested in participating in some way. Are you from South Bend? If so are there a decent amount of MINIs in the area? I'm actually originally from the area so I'd be all for it. I've been to the new Tire Rack facility several times and have been totally impressed. It would be tons of fun. And I could pick up some new tires while I'm there!
I am checking on logistics for us.
Tirerack facility's best 2 dates as of now, would be Saterday September 13th, or Saterday September 27th.
I get to juggle between all the clubs that use our track, and Notre Dame Home games! No dates haver been made offical that was just an idea.
One logistical challenge I may have encountered is timing lights.
Every club that comes here for events has their own timing light/gate system.
If anyone knows of a good set of start and finnish gate lights and timers please PM or email me.

Wow. That's really soon. The 13th would probably be much too close to the Chicago MINI meet on the 7th for me (and perhaps others) to reasonably expect to get let off work...
Yeah the 13th would be a bit difficult for me as well. The 27th off the top of my head seems much better.
Since were a very young club we have nothing in the way of equipment for events like this. Would it be possible to make it a bit more casual and not have a nice professional set of timing lights?
Alex - what would the cost be for an event like this?

Thanks for responding! September 27 can work for me also. Here in South Bend we do not have very many Mini owners. (The lack of a local dealer, etc.) To have a viable event we will need to draw from the areas of Chicago, lower Michigan and Indianapolis. We are less than three hours away from all these areas, that's a plus. The facilities at The Tire Rack are a plus. I am talking to others who've put on Mini gatherings to gleen ideas from them. If Alex can secure the track at TTR, we will get specific with the details and begin registration. Then we will know if we got an event.
AS for the 27th, isn't Formula 1 that weekend in Indy. I know they are planning a number of events in the area. for the whole weekend. Like the night before and day of (28th). Of course, could make it part of the "weekend".
Ill post more later on specific events.

UPDATE!!! Have been working with Alex on some logistics for equipment, etc., and we will better having our Mini Meet and MotoCross on OCTOBER 4. We will have use of the track at The Tire Rack set up with cones for a challenging run. No racing experience expected, and your Mini will be safe on this course. We will have proffesional starting/timing lights so you are gonna know just how fast you really are. This will be a fun event! You'll tour (parts) of The Tire Rack and meet Alex. We will have food, T-shirts and did I mention fun? There is likely to be a registration fee to cover costs such as insurance and the T-shirts, more details on registration to come. WHO'S IN?
UPDATE: October 4 is firm. Figuring out the insurance for the autocross, (I've been calling it "motocross", I,m so embarased). Once the insurance expense is known, we'll have the entry fee. Couple of clubs are offering help to operate the autocross, and that is much appreciated. Should be a blast! For the road tour, we're thinking the curvey-est route to and from Notre Dame. Does that sound good? Ought to be great pix opportunites on campus.
>>Sadales-- OK, I'm stupid. What's a STX? (Glad you're interested in our event!)
I hope he does not mean his STX NEON (if I remember correctly) I will be there and will need tires by the time I'm done. Autocross is sooo cool!

No Neon. You must be thinking of someone else. STX is a class in SCCA Solo II (autocrossing) which allows some car modifications but requires real street tires (140 treadwear or above). I have been competing in the Indy (indyscca.org) and Columbus, IN (cscc-scca.org) regions for a couple of years, with this season being in my 2003 MCS which I got last October.
SPAX coilovers
RDR rear swaybar
H-Sport rear camber links (4)
P&D camber plates being replaced by K-Mac
BMP intake
Magnaflow exhaust
Kosei K1-R 16x7.5" wheels w/ 215/45-16 Azenis (on my 2nd set this year)
Hope that clears things up. I've taken the Tire Rack tour (pretty cool building and company) so it is the autocross on their test track that really caught my eye. I haven't competed there yet and it looks like fun.
