"road rally course" <= is that on a paved road or a unpaved dirt road?

Paved. Not a road race, just traveling together from TTR for the fun of it.

Confused,I was planning on driving up from Cincinnati for the autocross and pointers from "real"mini driversIt seems like $1000 is needed,50 cars X $20.If only 30 cars showed the price could be $30 per car.
Like many,I have planned on attending but didn't preregister.

Mikehome-- The original date was October 4th and that's when we were having problems making arrangements. We are now on for the 19th! An autocross was already planned for that day at The Tire Rack, so we're joining in. Much interest has been indicated, but I do not have a number for how many Mini owners are coming, as we will register the day of the event.

We will not only have Mini's there, but likely some BMW's, Porches, etc. We will have a hospitality tent for Mini's and other activities. Should be a fun day.

All of you planning to attend, why not send me a pm. That way I can feed back to the group who all will be there.

God speed.

I stopped in for the local South Bend SCCA meeting Tuesday night to see what they are all about and inquire about joining. Their director of Solo II racing reported about 50 cars at the last local Solo event which was rained on. They normally get between 70 to 80 cars. A bunch of MINI's could make the event a lot bigger! I did not comment on how many MINI's would be there since I didn't have that info. All I know is they run a fairly prompt schedule to try to get as many runs per car throughout the day.

Keep in mind that this is the last points race of the season for the SCCA South Bend Region. They may have a LOT of cars with season champ points on the line. Our bunch added may run their race schedule quite long (figure ALL DAY for those racing). Everyone should get there EARLY if they want to run. They may have a limit on how many cars they can handle. The SCCA people seem like a great bunch of enthusists and Solo racing is a big part of their regional events. They also mentioned that the Tire Rack track is an ideal setup for cars like the MINI.

For more info on who we will be joining, go to
www.sbrscca.org

For those of you who (like me) have never autocrossed before this link is excellent information on what to expect and what is expected of YOU.

See you there!

Thanks for the insite minifinn.

I'm just back from running through the "road rally" course that Alex (The Tire Rack) has clued me in on. WOW!!! Very twisty, very challenging, a good amount of hills and valleys and... it's beautiful! The trees are turning colors, creeks, farms, woods, horses, roadside stands.

Hope we get time after the track runs. Gonna be a full day, everyone drive safely coming in!

God speed.

A BIG THANKS to CooperBeagle for the effort. It was a perfect day. The Tire Rack track was a blast, the MINI gang were friendly, the lunch was great, and the very quick rally trip to the pumpkin patch splendid. Those who missed out...maybe next time! If you are not Solo racing your MINI you are missing out on a big part of what MINI ownership could be. It was great meeting those that attended. Thanks to Alex TOO!

Yeah, Thanks for all the efforts Cooper Beagle! Kelly and I had a great time. The weather was perfect, soloII was a blast, free dinner from CooperBeagle, then topping it all off with a quick little tour through the countryside. Thanks Alex@tirerack for making us feel at home.. (a tour of the plant would have been nice though ) We will be back! This was our second SCCA soloII and we hope to hit our 3rd on October 26th!
thanks again,

Great pictures. I was wondering if you had any from the the TIRE RACK event. Had a great time and would like to thank all you guys and Cooperbeagle. The drive from Buffalo was worth it. I just wish the SCCA would take a different look at a MINI that had a WORKS kit on it. Still had loads of fun even if I got stuck in SM class.I guess I'll just have to make it a monster over the winter when it sits in the garage. Thanks again and see you guys next spring. Thanks to Alex also from the TIRE RACK.

Newbs49,
Cooperbeagle posted more pics at http://www.geocities.com/southbendmini . I've read some other threads were the jcw ran in ASP. I don't know if it really belongs there either, but might be more competitive.

We did our last autox for the season. We ran in the novice class. Out if 19 novices, conceptvision (chris) placed 5th and I got 7th. Not bad for a bone stock MCS with runflat all-season tires.

Conceptvision,
Your sig pic is great. Enjoyed meeting you and Kelly. Maybe I'll visit your region next year for some cone carnage. BTW, I am absolutely signing up for the South Bend region Novice Solo school in April. My MCS is much faster than I am.

Thanks for the update Minifinn! Can't wait for spring. You and Cooperbeagle should think about hitting some of our events next year. INR is a much smaller club and more laid back. We usually get 6 runs each. We have a couple of people that have competed nationally and they are really helpful, love to give free advice. The website is http://www.inr-scca.org , there is a picture of my MCS next to the classic Mini that races in our region.

Our events are held either at Portage High School or Merrillville high school. (not pristine track like the Tirerack, but still fun). It would problably only take you guys around 1 hour to get here, easy drive on the toll road. Lunch would be on me and Chris! Hope to see you in the spring -- this will be a long winter !
