July run to Machester Beach

Hey guys i know its kind of early to start thinking about a July Run but when we were at Crawdaddys on Saturday night Mark (GP1373) started talking about Machester Beach and it sounded like it would be great for a run. For those who don't know Machester Beach is on highway 1 about 40 miles south of Fort Bragg or about 300 miles from Fresno. I think it's a 5+ hour drive.

I bring this up down because this would be a 3 or 4 day run. So we need to start planning now so we can figure out how many people would want to go, we are also going to try and get NORCAL involed in this. Plus we need to reserve rooms and camp sites and such. We were thinking July 4 might be fun so I wanted eveyones input on which days would work best for them. The 3 or 4 days before July 4th or the 3 or 4 days after July 4th.

So what do you guys think?

Hey Chris, Diane did a little research this afternoon.
Check out this link.

http://koa.com/where/ca/05182/

Here is the website to the KOA. I put in just for fun, July 3-6, to be there for the 4th of July. For a one room cabin w/heater, shower, outdoor bar-b-que and table, fire ring and porch swing…no bathroom ;-), it’s $189 for 3 nights. Tent camping with fire ring, bar-b-que and table is $105.

Machester Beach Run

You might also like to know that the KOA site has a pool, game room with pool tables, bike rentals, laundry facility, full HOT showers that are free, and pancake breakfast. During this time there is a July 4th camp decorating contest with prizes. There is a July 4th parade through the camp and all campers are encouraged to participate. There are hay rides, lots of beach, and even a keroke night.

Just approx. 8 miles South is the Historic Point Arena Light House and Museum. There are tours conducted at the light house daily. A Mel Gibson WWII movie was filmed there at Point Arena for you movie buffs.

Just a little further South is the town of Point Arena that puts on a great Fire Works display at the Wharf in Point Arena. There are shops and resturants at the Wharf as well.

There is a great MINI run from Manchester to Boonville. Lots of curves and approx. 8% grade. You may want to brush up on you Bootling to communicate with the local inhabitants of Boonville.

The views are breathtaking and the curvy roads are made for the MINI.
See you there.

For those who like to drive curvy roads, the drive from Manchester Beach to Boonville has the cuves to make any passenger sick to their stomach. There are many 10 mile per hour hair pin turns plus lots of up and down grades along the way. You drive through lots of forest and the views are outstanding. Make sure you bring your camera.

I have just been given some new information on group camping at the Manchester Beach KOA campground.

Holiday Daily rate for Adults: $12.00/night
Holiday Daily rate for Children: $6.00/night

The minimum group rate applies to 18 persons each night. A reservation has been made for Mid-Cal Mini's begining July 4th through July 7th. We would leave the campground on the morning of July 8th.

A decorating contest will occure on July 4th, a parade through the campground, hay rides, and more. Point Arena will have their Fire Works desplay on Saturday, July 7th in Point Arena.

For those interested in cabins, there are some still available but you need to make reservations soon. There is a pool, recreation room with pool tables and video games, and bikes for rent. The campground has wood available but we purchase wood from a local vendor.

We have a confirmation number so we are set. We just need to recruite 18 individuals (adults & kids) to meet the minimum.

Originally Diane & I were going. Our plans have changed.
We will not be able to attend.
My Nephew will be coming to California in June for the first time.
He will be flying out on July 4th. So our time will be spent seeing him off.

We are disappointed.

I hope that all who make it there have a spectacular time.
I know that the drive and side roads will be fun.
The Point Arena area will be beautiful.

R&D.

This has been canceled due to lack of interest. I will be thinking of everyone when we are in Sanoma tipping our glass of wine.
