Walter Rohrl = God
Walter Rohrl = God
I think around 5:10 he has the 911 sideways is shifting gears and checking his watch, this video is just plain wrong:

Walter is one of my hero's. A true rally god. He has the ability to drive anything anywhere. But Michelle Mouton is a rally goddess, the only woman to win a round of the WRC & missed being world champion, by a hairs breath.

WOW what a night of off color OT posts with us MOMC folks
I got confused on the last posts where "nice rack" and "Rally" are mentioned together. This may generate a comeback from our friends on the Northcoast

The Porsche-onlt mag. Excellence had an amazing article about Walter driving a 70-something 911 safari (the first 911 to win the Paris-Dakar rally).
OhMiGod.
I was getting white knuckles reading what he did to that editor.
And that was in the dirt.
They then went to the ring, with traffic, and proceded to do things like "pass a Z4 M on the OUTSIDE of the carousel!"
This was after a customer requested that Walter personally test his Carerra GT (and he did).

There is another German video out there where he is giving people a ride around the Ring and he is just chatting up a storm while the care is sideways. For some reason all these videos are from the terrible egg yoke headlight 911's. Race car drivers are cool, but nothing beats a good rally driver in a high power car. Especially when you can watch their hands the quick twitches that keep the car on course are amazing.
I can not remember the name, but there is a really cool artsy film about the Pike's Peak race back in the 80's where the camera on the side of the car gets hit by a bug and then later is drug through the rocks on the inside of one of the corners. There is also a shot of the driver (I think it is Walter) sliding around a hairpin with one hand on the wheel and the other blocking the sun from his eyes.

I think you're referring to the Peugeot movie and the driver is Ari Vatanen, another rally ace... Walter is one of my favorite drivers as well...

Don't forget Stig Blomqvist (whom I've met) in a recent flik in a factory Audi Sport quattro S1...
And yes, current Factory Porsche test driver Walter Rohrl (who used to race for Audi)
I know, I'm even checking my work email
But not to worry I'm up next to play Star Wars Lego on Wii. We played for 4 hours straight on Christmas and I burnt the outside of the ham....warden was not happy. We only cleared 8% of the game. I also did pretty good on the Crossbow training game, had to stop hand started to cramp up.
Spawn is hogging Wii w/Guitar Hero at the moment. She wants to go online now so....see ya later.
