Track Day, Sunday, July 25, Pocono, North Course
Another event coming up:
Check out this thread: http://mini2.com/forum/showthread.php?t=57997
This is Sunday, July 25th, MINIs and Minis at Pocono's North Course with PDA! You can get more info if needed from Debbie Franks at Princeton MINI, 609-452-9400. For those of you interested in seeing a lot of Classic Mini's, come on out to Pocono,
if not as a driver, as a spectator! This is a Sunday, only about 2 hours from the Philadelphia metropolitan area, no reason not to have a great turnout!!
I spoke with Joe, the owner of PDA. As I had suspected, this will be a similar day to what we had at Lime Rock, ALMOST MINI's only. Basically, if there are enough MINI's to fill a run group (20-25), it will be MINI's only out on the track during that run group. Though it's a bit of a quandry, as not all will be at the same skill level, though I suspect that most will not have had much track experience.
There are, however, some serious drivers among the Classic Mini owners, so who knows how the turnout will be. If it's anything like OcktCOOPERFest, there should be a decent turnout of both MINI's and Mini's!
The other benefit of doing this particular day with PDA is that the membership requirement will be waived, as will the extra fee for not being a member. If you use the online application, put MINI OWNERS OF NEW JERSEY in the space where it says: Current PDA Event/Membership #. That will save you $25-$35.

See you out there!

What is the schedule for the day??? How many cars are in each run group??? If there is more than one run group, what wil the other groups be doing while a particular group is out on the track????
Cool, more MINI's to play with!! It may not be apparent from this thread, but there will be a decent turnout of MINI's on this day.
Not so sure about Mini's, though.
Paddy, typically there are 5 run groups, Novice, Intermediate 1 & 2, Advanced and Instructors, between 20-25 cars per group. Also typical is to have 4 sessions, approximately 25 minutes each. It may not sound like much, but due to the intense concentration while on the track, you'll be exhausted by the end of the day.
In between sessions, there is plenty to do. There may be a meeting(s)or class session(s) based on run group. Ride as a passenger with your instructor or another instructor, it's a great learning tool and a real thrill! You'll always want to look over your car after finishing your session. Check your fluids, take a look at your brakes/tires, check pressures, etc. Re-torque your wheels before your next session (after your car has cooled down). Time for lunch somewhere in there. Stay hydrated. Go to the bathroom alot if you're staying hydrated
. Mingle and check out the wide variety of vehicles. Watch the other sessions. You may even find time for a cat-nap.

For those of you attending and following this thread:
The track opens at 7:00am, sign in/registration starts, and tech begins. MANDATORY driver's meeting at 8:30am.
If anyone is interested in sharing a room, let me know. I will be staying overnight the night before. Non-smoking, female.
If you're coming as a spectator, of course you don't need to be there as early!

After keeping an eye on the weather during the days prior to this event, I'm happy to say that we had no rain, contrary to weather predictions!! It turned out to be a beautiful day, not too hot, with the sun coming out later in the day, perfect for driving on the track!
We had 17 MINI's, and 1 Mini. The Mini didn't join us on the track, but we appreciated the presence nonetheless! I also think that one MINI wasn't out there with us. Since we didn't have enough for one run group (needed at least 20), we were spread out in the groups according to skill level, with the majority of the MINI's in the Novice run group.
The big surprise of the day came when "koolmini", showed up!! He was driving home from the summertime slaying of the dragon, stopped for gas near Pocono, saw a MINI and BMW gassing up, and they asked him if he was heading for the track. Well, he wasn't, but he did!!
Aahhhh, what can I say about driving on the track? It's exciting, exhilirating, challenging.... I enjoyed the North Course more than the South Course of last week. The inner part of the course was more "technical" - more turns, while the part of the course on the tri-oval was less freaky than the South Course. The banking on the North Course was less steep, and that section was plenty long for those that like to build up lots of speed!
My new Yokohama AVS ES100's were great on the track! Incredibly different from the run-flats, confidence inspiring, instead of skip and hop, they skip and grip and grip and grip.
What a fantastic day, hanging out with MINI pals, meeting new people, spending time with those already familiar. Hopefully we'll see some of you at another track day in the near future! A number of us stopped at a local pizza place afterwards to rehash the days events. When I got home, I was exhausted, I totally conked out!!
