dinan or jcw exhaust

ya i Just bought a 04 mcs with the MC40 rally package and i want to boost my power a little so im going with the dinan stage 1 but im a little concerned about the exhaust. the guy at the mini dealer told me he can swap the dinan single can exhaust for the JCW exhaust or the Zoomers Exhaust. I want one that is louder than stock, but one that still has a nice little rumble too it. If any one has any personal opinions from dinan exhaust jcw or zoomers exhaust please let me know !!! thanks a lot. !!!

I have heard both but not at the same time. The DINAN is louder with bigger exit pipes. The JCW is more muted but better than stock and the tips are more refined. There is a difference of about $500 retail in the two with DINAN being cheaper.

I personally am thinking about getting the DINAN even with our dealer having a very good deal on the JCW right now.

GoMiniGo, I have Magnaflow on my 03 MCS and love them but my point was to say that when I hear a works car I am always disapointed by how weak sounding the exhaust is, considering the car is supposed to be a hot rod!!! Just another opinion to consider!!!

I live in Kent hope to see you some time? Dan (CooPeRDiem)

Take it. I had a list price at $1500+, deal at 1200+, and figured mine wiith the kit was 900+..

It's a handsome piece, but whispers so much I wonder if it breathes,,,

My MC40 is #995 and hides a JCW behind a magnaflow

The JCW exhaust, and pardon my forwardness, sounds awful. It's quieter and more meek sounding than stock. I haven't heard the Dinan, but based on their history, they literally rework factory stuff. You're better off with an aftermarket, something that at least has potential to make some power, and sound genuinely good. Milltek, Borla Race, Magnaflow, UUC (if attainable), and Scorpion are the only ones I'm aware of that have actually made power on some people's MCS's. A caviet is that every MCS reacts differently, so it's up to you to figure out which will work best on your car. Most likely you'll decide based on tone and volume.

$650 for a cut-n-weld muffler?!
...and to boot, the one sided design will for sure have assymmetrical thermal expansion, as well as assymmetrical exhaust tip utilization (aka, one will stay clean, just like the ALTA) YUK

Keep in mind this is for the JCW exhaust only, not the whole kit. And also consider that it doesn't add any power and some people even like the stock S sound better. For $600-850, you could have any aftermarket exhaust you wanted - and more power and sound to boot!

Everyone says the JCW doesn't make any power, but I have never seen a dyno. So I am skeptical of that claim. Most of the times it is a I heard a friend of a friend say it doesn't give any power.

I would also take the claims with a grain of salt. If you listen to everyone on here, I can show multiple post from various people saying that they have documented evidence that:
  • The JCW exhaust actually looses power.
  • The JCW ECU is detuned and has been shown to make less power than the standard S chip.
  • The JCW head is awful and wasn't done right
  • The pulley is only 13.8% and only adds about 5hp (even thought their Alta 15% pulley makes 20hp)
I swear if I add up all the negative comments on the JCW (which are quite a few), it actually makes negative numbers and takes away power from the standard S. Even though the JCW has been shown in multiple magazine test to out acclerate kits from Hartge, GGR, AmD.... A lot of these kits have parts that many people recommend above the JCW pieces.

With that said (got off my soapbox), it is more expensive. I wouldn't characterize the sound as aweful. It is more subdued than other exhausts, but each person has their own taste. Some people like the Boral Race and think anything else is just plain wimpy, whereas other people like much quieter exhausts.

FWIW, my NRP single-sided system soiled both sides, & grew straight.

I have the JCW exhaust on my works car, a buddy has the full stage one kit from Dinan.

Having heard and seen both, I personally prefer the Dinan. I LIKE the fact the works exhaust is quieter than stock, but the Dinan pipes have a very nice sound to them. Not a huge difference, but I think they sound better.

And they DO have the same problem as the Alta's - one tip gets dirty while the other stays clean. Not a huge deal, but it does do that.

After participating in the exhaust shootout at the dragon this year, I'd have to say my fav's overall are the Dinan, Works, and then maybe the Magnaflow. The Borla was just far too loud and buzzy for my tastes.... at least the Borla Sport was, and that was the one I paid the most attention to.

By all means avoid the Supertrapp.... unless you are into that sort of thing, and then you'd probably just cut it all off and run straight pipes anyway.
