JCW Owners help!

I'm picking up my '05 MCS on Sat. I wanted to do the JCW kit but I was just told today that it was going to be 2 weeks and they wouldn't put on a 2004 kit. The dealership said that if I get the '05 kit installed post delivery, even if it is a another dealer, that I would get the full 4 year warranty on everything including the JCW kit. Is this true? Or do I need to get the kit AT delivery to maintain the full 4 year warranty on everything.

Thanks,
Patrick

The warranty statement from John Cooper Works is the following:

"The John Cooper Works tuning kit is covered by the two-year/unlimited miles MINI Parts and Accessory Warranty or the remainder of the MINI New Vehicle Warranty, whichever is greater, if installed by an authorized MINI Dealer."

So I think you are covered.

....it is if warrantee is the issue. Otherwise a better performing MCS can be had by doing it yourself with aftermarket for a lot less $. It's really what you're after that makes it worth it. If I had the $$ to blow I would buy one, just because it is a "JCW".

I'm well aware of the aftermarket options. I'm in law school right now and want a car that won't hit me with huge non-warranty work in the next 3 years so the warranty is a big item for me.

Patrick,

Good luck. I have my '05 JCW on order as well. My last MCS I went aftermarket, which was fun, but it never felt as smooth as the JCW. It also didn't hold the value of the JCW. I too had a few warranty hiccups as well with my aftermarket parts. They didn't deny the work, but there was some explaining to do.

For what its worth, Mike Cooper commented that of all of the first 5,000 kits that were sold, there weren't any returns. BMW holds them to a very tight quality expectation. I haven't had any problems with mine (JCW or the MINI itself) to date.

The air box design on the '05 series seems quite interesting, I can't wait to get mine up-dated. From the event held a few weeks ago in Minneapolis, there has been alot of positive reaction to the new kit. I'm not sure that the revised gearbox ratios have something to do with it, but one person who says he has alot of time in MCS/JCW's, stated theres a remarkable difference between the two. I hope so.

Good Luck!

I'm sure it has to do with both. 10hp should definitely be noticeable and the smaller 2nd and 3rd gears which improve 0-60 times bt 0.4 or so should also definitely be noticeable. Add the two together and viola!
